A lot of Distilleries on the island have restricted opening hours, especially at weekends. If there are specific distilleries that you already have in mind to visit we suggest that you consider contacting them in advance and booking your tour to secure your place.
It is possible to travel to all but two of the distilleries on the island by public bus, see timetable below for frequency. If arriving on the evening ferry (usually to Port Ellen) be aware that there are no public buses to meet that ferry. There are also no buses on Sundays on the island.
The local eating establishments stop serving meals at around 8.30pm, see below to find out more about hostel meals.
If you plan to bring your car it is a good idea to book your place on the ferry in advance with Calmac.
