Port Charlotte Youth Hostel is a converted whisky warehouse of the former Lochindaal Distillery, right at the shore of Loch Indaal on Islay. The youth hostel has all the amenities you would expect. For those looking for budget accommodation multi-share rooms are available, but the youth hostel is also family friendly and provides private rooms. Facilities include a spacious and well-equipped self-catering kitchen overlooking the bay and a common room for families and groups with a TV and comfy furniture.

This charming youth hostel is situated in the village of Port Charlotte with its whitewashed cottages, numerous restaurants, eateries and tea and coffee spots. The endless beaches on Islay are sandy and deserted, while the distilleries in the area are world renowned Single Malt producers are found in breath-taking locations.

The main youth hostel building is closed between 10:00 and 14:00. After 14:00 the common room will be available and guests who have already checked in can access their rooms again.

Please note that we do not accept stag or hen parties at any of our hostels.

A lot of Distilleries on the island have restricted opening hours, especially at weekends. If there are specific distilleries that you already have in mind to visit we suggest that you consider contacting them in advance and booking your tour to secure your place.

It is possible to travel to all but two of the distilleries on the island by public bus, see timetable below for frequency. If arriving on the evening ferry (usually to Port Ellen) be aware that there are no public buses to meet that ferry. There are also no buses on Sundays on the island.

Getting Here

If you plan to bring your car it is a good idea to book your place on the ferry in advance with Calmac.
