We’re pleased to announce a major redevelopment project is under-way at Glen Nevis Youth Hostel. This is a key part of SYHA’s long-term strategic plan, which includes a continual programme of modernisation across our network to improve your hostelling experience in Scotland and build on our commitment to provide great quality accommodation.
Bookings are now being taken for Glen Nevis, with the hostel reopening in early summer 2018. During the redevelopment period, nearby Glencoe Youth Hostel will continue to offer a warm welcome to guests looking to explore the Lochaber area.
Sitting at the foot of Ben Nevis, the refurbished youth hostel will provide a wide range of high quality shared accommodation and private en-suite rooms. New facilities include a comfortable, open plan, contemporary living space with a log burning stove and fantastic views of the surrounding area. There's also a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, drying room, laundry and secure bike storage - perfect for groups, families and individual travellers!
Full catering is available for groups and cooked or continental breakfasts for all guests who prefer to take the hassle out of preparing for a long day on the hills. With a great selection of local craft beers and wines on sale, you should still find time to relax outside after a hard day exploring.
With Britain's highest mountain, a world class mountain biking course and some of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes almost on its doorstep, Glen Nevis continues to be one of the most popular destinations in our network.
If you are looking for large group accommodation or holiday cottages then we have locations across Scotland perfect for groups and family gatherings on a budget. See below for availability or click here for more information and to enquire.

As part of our commitment to sustainability and environmental issues, our youth hostels are assessed by Green Tourism, the largest and most established sustainable certification in the world. The assessment covers areas such as energy saving, waste minimisation, social responsibility and travel.
Glen Nevis Youth Hostel currently holds a Gold award for Green Tourism. To read more about Hostelling Scotland’s Sustainability Charter, please click here. There are some quick and easy ways that you can make a difference and help us achieve our Green Tourism goals - to read our Responsible Visitor Charter and find out more, please click here.
We have also been looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Together with Lochaber Environmental Group we have been monitoring our electricity usage with an OWL Electric Monitor that shows us when we have peaks and troughs in use and also our constant base rate. At the moment we have monitors on seven of our fridges and freezers to identify if any of these are not running economically and once we have compiled these results we may look at putting timers on our drink fridges so that they only chill drinks when needed.
We encourage our guests to use public transport where possible when travelling to our youth hostels – please see travelinescotland.com to plan your route or speak to youth hostel staff. If you are touring Scotland on two wheels then sustrans.org.uk has a wealth of information on cycling routes, safety and sustainable travel.
