Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel is a cosy former hunting lodge situated on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch with magnificent sea and mountain views.

Built in the 1880's this is one of the oldest youth hostels within the SYHA network. Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel is a popular choice with groups, families and individual travellers looking for budget accommodation. The youth hostel offers a good range of facilities including an excellent dining room, a well-equipped self-catering kitchen and both multi-share and private bedrooms. The most commented feature by our guests is the lounge which boasts stunning panoramic views of the Torridon hills and Loch Gairloch.

The youth hostel provides excellent wildlife spotting opportunities with dolphins, whales and otter spotted at the front of the youth hostel. There are excellent sandy beaches only 5 minutes' walk away and boat trips to watch whales and dolphins are available from nearby Gairloch.

Many fine mountains are only a short drive away, including the Torridon range. The local village also boasts fine pubs, coffee shops, local seafood and an award-winning heritage museum. The famous Inverewe Garden is also close by.

May 2017 saw Gairloch Sands and Ratagan Youth Hostels, both reaching an amazing milestone - their 85th anniversary! Thank you to everyone who shared their fantastic memories and photos - we’ve compiled them together into an ebook: Gairloch Sands and Ratagan, 85 Year of Memories.

With dog friendly accommodation available at Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel, your four-legged friend will be able to join in on all the fun! A small fee of five pounds per dog per night will be charged and must be booked in advance to ensure that a dog friendly room is allocated.
