Give Us A Break (GUAB) is the funded residential programme of SYHA Hostelling Scotland which aims to tackle social exclusion by offering groups of vulnerable or disadvantaged young people the opportunity to take part in activity holidays at youth hostels across Scotland.

What to Expect

All of SYHA's Youth Programmes are designed to help young people realise their full potential and to build confidence and self-esteem. For many it will be the first time they have had the opportunity to explore and experience what the Scottish countryside has to offer.  All SYHA Youth Programmes are tailored to meet the age and ability of participants.

Participants are encouraged to move a little outside their comfort zone, to push themselves and realise the true extent of their abilities. Many young people are amazed at what they are able to achieve, overcoming fears and nerves to abseil, gorge walk or kayak. The increase in self-esteem is visible and for some youngsters the trip proves to be a life changing experience.

A typical break includes a 2 night stay at a Scottish youth hostel. Working in partnership with experienced and qualified outdoor activity providers, participants receive expert knowledge and instruction in a whole range of team building and problem solving activities.
