Hostelling International's (HI) Sustainability Fund Competition is back! Launched in April 2012, the fund raises money to help the worldwide hostelling network to finance projects to reduce their CO2 emissions through small donations made by overnight guests.

This year HI are handing over part of the decision making power to you! By casting your vote you can help decide which youth hostels get a share of their £18,000 fund for a range of environmental plans.

Some fantastic sustainability projects have been put forward by youth hostels from around the why should you vote for Ullapool?

"Keeping the heat in" - improving the insulation and energy efficiency of Ullapool Youth Hostel will save an estimated 2.94 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The team at Ullapool work very hard making the youth hostel eco-friendlier and are committed to working in a sustainable way while encouraging, educating and inspiring guests to make more sustainable choices.

We're proud of Ullapool's Gold Green Tourism award (6 years running!) and are very keen to hold on to it. By installing loft insulation in the currently uninsulated pitched roof it would make a significant difference to the energy efficiency of the building and allow the youth hostel to become a more sustainable destination.

As a not-for-profit organisation all income generated from our activities is invested back into the network. However, with more than 30 Scottish Youth Hostels to look after, winning a share of the sustainability fund pot to invest into Ullapool Youth Hostel would go a long way in helping us achieve our commitment to sustainability and environmental issues. But we need your vote!

Find out more and cast your vote on Hostelling International's website here.

Vote closes 20 December 2016.
