Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival: 29 April - 1 May

This festival is a celebration of the traditional arts of music and dance of the highlands and islands of Scotland. More than 1000 people compete in the festival in over 125 competition classes across 11 disciplines. The festival is also host to the Scottish Area finals which is the only Highland dancing team event to be held in the world.

Glasgow Science Festival: 9 - 19 June 

Glasgow Science Festival (GSF) has grown to be one of the largest in the UK, and is now entering its tenth year. This year the theme is 'Glasgow Innovates' and some 50,000 people are expected to attend. Events are hosted across the city with the aim of showcasing the contribution that Glasgow and Glasgow-based research has made in the world of science.

Gairloch Gathering: 2 July

The Gairloch Gathering is a great day out for people of all ages. The gathering is a traditional day with lots of games, Highland dancers, pipe bandm hill race and farrier display followed by a BBQ and ceilidh in the evening.

Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open: 7 - 10 July

The 2016 tournament will feature top-class golfers from around the world playing on the banks of the Moray Firth. Scotland has long been hailed the 'home of golf' and golf is very much regarded as a Scottish Cultural icon, so of course a golfing event is going to be included in this list!

Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Military Tattoo: 5 - 29 August

Edinburgh should be top of everyone's travel plans come August, as the city quite simply comes alive. The festival sees a variety of performances take place across the city ranging from plays, comedy acts and street performers. Meanwhile, the Tattoo has become somewhat of a 'global gathering' with performers from over 48 countries taking part.

Bloody Scotland: 9 - 11 September

Scotland's crime writing festival is a weekend to 'die for'. With the chance to meet famous authors, take part in a writing masterclass or attend the annual awards dinner, it is sure to inspire.
