Volunteer, Julie, tells us about her time at Crianlarich Youth Hostel...
"Over the last 2 months I have been volunteering at Crianlarich Youth Hostel, in the beautiful Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. It was really easy to apply and a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
"I decided that volunteering would be ideal for me as I could visit and explore a bit more of Scotland and it would keep me busy.
"My tasks varied from helping with Green Tourism initiatives - which included creating a new composting area made up of old timbers, and helping to tidy up the drive way and car park. I spent some time on reception and light cleaning tasks, painted rooms, made up beds and assisted with catering during the New Year.
"Volunteering at Crianlarich Youth Hostel has given me the opportunity to visit and explore a lot more of Scotland. On my days off I travelled to Oban, Fort William, Inverness, Skye, Glencoe, Loch Tay and Stirling too. The highlight was the going up the ski lift in the freezing fog and snow at Glencoe Mountain Ski Resort on Boxing Day! On a nice bright day I walked part of the The West Highland Way between Crianlarich and Tyndrum (and now know where you can get the best cheese scones in Scotland!).
"Having never stayed at a Youth Hostel before I was pleasantly surprised at how modern, clean and friendly it is. I would also highly recommend volunteering with SYHA Hostelling Scotland to anyone looking for the chance to get out and explore Scotland while helping to make a difference."
