With its stunning landscapes and architecture, Scotland is the perfect place to inspire your inner Romeo or Juliet (but we’re hoping for more “starlit skies” than “star-crossed lovers”!). If you love to get out and about with that special someone in your life then here are our top tips for romantic places in Scotland.
Enjoy a gentle walk through the huge American conifers - planted by Lord Strathcona in the 1890s in the hope that they would comfort his homesick Canadian wife – while admiring the lovely views of Bidean Nam Bian and The Pap of Glencoe in the background. For the more adventurous, the view of Loch Leven from the slopes of Stac a ‘Chlamhain is breath-taking! Nearest Youth Hostel: Glencoe
With an abundance of restaurants, theatres and cultural hotspots, you’re sure to fall in love with Edinburgh! Cosy up at the Filmhouse Independent Cinema, stroll hand in hand through Edinburgh’s Old Town with its cobbled streets and quaint historic wynds or admire the view from the top of the Scott Monument as the sun sets over the city. Nearest Youth Hostel: Edinburgh Central
You can’t really beat the spectacular scenic wilderness of Rannoch Moor! Take a trip on the West Highland Way via Corrour Station – the highest and most remote mainland train station in the UK! Nearest Youth Hostel: Loch Ossian
Isle of Arran
For an island romance, Arran (also known as “little Scotland”) is perfect for exploring with mountains, woodlands and beautiful beaches! A visit to Brodick Castle is a must – not only is the castle home to a fantastic collection of furniture dating back to the 17th century but the paths throughout the restored garden and grounds offer spectacular views of the island for you to admire together. Nearest Youth Hostel: Lochranza (open weekends only until 13 March)
