Glen Nevis Youth Hostel re-opens after major refurb
Hostelling Scotland is delighted to announce that Glen Nevis Youth Hostel, one of our most popular, has reopened in time for summer. The Highland hostel, just outside Fort William, has been closed since October 2017, allowing the team full access to completely transform the property.
Over the past seven months a total of £2.1 million has been spent to turn the hostel into a contemporary, open plan environment, with a mix of private bedrooms and shared accommodation.
The revamped hostel is located at the foot of the UK’s highest mountain Ben Nevis, and is surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery. Just across the road is a path that leads up to the mountain, so Glen Nevis is an ideal place to stay for outdoor enthusiasts, thrill seekers, and those on a mission to bag Scotland’s largest Munro.
Way Back When
Glen Nevis is the largest and longest established youth hostel in the Glen Nevis/ Fort William area. It has been providing accommodation for individuals, families and groups exploring the area since 1938. This massive redevelopment project highlights our commitment to modernising the hostels in our network, in order to improve the overall hostelling experience in Scotland.
Guests can relax in the comfortable, modern, open-plan living space where they can enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding area. There is a brand new wood burning stove for cold evenings and winter nights, a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, drying room, laundry and secure bike storage. You've also got the option of hanging out and sipping on a hot/ cold drink, right next to the hostel’s hand-painted mural (check it out below!), or on the decking outside.
Food & Drink
Continental breakfast, cooked breakfast and packed lunches are available for individual guests throughout the year. Evening meals are available for groups of over 20 people, as long as they’re pre-booked more than 2 weeks prior to arrival.
Groups can choose a full catering service and cooked or continental breakfast is available for all guests if they choose this option. The self-catering kitchen has 3 hobs with 4 cooking rings, 2 ovens, 2 large fridges and 2 microwaves, with space for 20 people. There is also a good selection of craft beers, wines, soft drinks and drinks to buy.
Glen Nevis hostel has a total of 72 beds, 17 rooms with en-suite bathrooms, and 7 shared rooms, which sleep 4 or more people.
