Sandhill Crane Spotted!
A Sandhill Crane
has landed on South Ronaldsay.
This Northern American bird may have been
blown slightly off its course. This is only the third time (in
recorded history) that one has been seen in Britain – the last
time being more than twenty years ago!
This is a birdwatcher’s dream, especially if
it decides to stay for a few days. Our youth hostel in Kirkwall
will provide welcome rest to anyone wanting to catch a rare glimpse
of this fantastic creature…even bird watchers will need a bed
sooner or later.
