Rowardennan BBC Success!
The BBC filming at Rowardennan
Lodge took place yesterday and was a complete success for the
hostel team and camera crew alike. Although rain threatened all
afternoon it managed to hold off for the hour long outside cooking
feature, which saw award-winning chef Grant McNicol and presenter
Dougie Vipond (pictured above) produce a delicious seafood
chowder.
Armed with a one-ring camping burner, some
simple cooking utensils and a couple of pans borrowed from the
hostel’s kitchen, Grant and Dougie entertained an enthusiastic
audience made up of hostel guests, walkers of the West Highland
Way, holiday makers from nearby Balmaha and SYHA staff.
The weather being dry but breezy provided
tricky conditions for the experienced chef and his well-known
assistant, but they pulled it off and served up the tasty results
to everyone watching. All the way through the lodge provided a
stunning backdrop to the filming, which was exactly what the BBC
crew had been looking for.
Pictured below is SYHA CEO Keith Legge
being shown some of the ingredients during the filming.
This filming event coincided with a hostel
open day and guests were also treated to a glass of wine, teas,
coffees and a beautiful buffet compliments of local caterers
Caledonian Catering. Rowardennan Lodge welcomed many different
visitors from different parts of Scotland, the UK, Europe and even
the Far East! A true reflection of hostelling at its best! Thanks
the entire SYHA team who prepared the day and looked after
everybody brilliantly.
