Green Tourism Award for Loch Ossian

The Green Business Tourism Scheme (GTBS) has announced its Best Performers for 2007. GTBS is one of VisitScotland’s quality award schemes providing advice and assessments on environmental performance to tourism businesses in Scotland. Following a carbon assessment project undertaken by GTBS on behalf of the Scottish Government a number of Green Tourism businesses have been identified as the best performers of last year. This is based on their energy performance, their green grading and their efforts as green ambassadors for sustainable tourism.

The four Best Performers, all from the accommodation sector, were announced by Philip Riddle, Chief Executive, VisitScotland.

The Best Performers of 2007 are:
Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, Fort William
Evergreen B&B, Loch Ness
The Glenartney, Arran
Blue Reef Cottages, Harris

Keith Legge, Chief Executive of the SYHA, said, “We are very proud that Loch Ossian Youth Hostel has been named as one of the top performers in the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This is one of the world’s leading eco-hostels, and is run in a way that safeguards the outstanding environment of Rannoch Moor. While Loch Ossian Youth Hostel leads the way, all of our hostels are accredited under the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and environmental awareness is at the heart of all our hostel operations. We have hostels in some of the most stunning locations in Scotland, and we are very aware of the need to protect the natural environment in which we operate.”
