Tomintoul

Small and friendly Smugglers Hostel is a converted school building in the picturesque village of Tomintoul, the northern gateway to Cairngorms National Park. This warm and welcoming hostel has great facilities for independent travellers, families or small groups. The hostel has 5 rooms and 22 beds, a good range of facilities including private rooms (one ensuite), a self-catering kitchen, a lounge with adjoining dining area and secure bike storage with washing facilities. The hostel is also dog friendly.

It's a perfect base for outdoor activities including walking, cycling and snowsports, with the Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trails, Speyside Way and the Lecht all on the doorstep. 

Tomintoul is a wonderfully lush and fertile area, most famous for the three ’W’s: whisky, walking and wildlife. The Speyside Way enables walkers to visit many local distilleries, including Tamdhu, Knockando, Aberlour, Glenfiddich and Balvenie.

Located in the highest village in Scotland, at the northern gateway to the Cairngorm National Park, the hostel is an excellent base for action and adventure.

In the winter it's perfectly located for the Lecht Ski Centre and in summer the Speyside Way and Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trails are popular with walkers and adventure seekers. The Cairngorms are within easy reach and, for those looking for something a little more relaxing, many wonderful low and high level walks also exist on the nearby Glenlivet estate. Activities such as cycling, horse riding, skiing and fly-fishing are all popular here whilst, further away, breeding ospreys can be viewed at Loch Garten.
