A comfortable hostel with a great view. The kitchen and living areas were better than some others I've encountered. However, I could have done with somewhere to put my stuff in the bedroom: even a little shelf beside the top bunk I was in would have been useful.

The hostel at Uig has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. After a day of walking it was nice to come back to relax and drink a cup of tea while looking at the great view across the bay from the kitchen and communal area. Despite feeling small and cosy there is still plenty of space in the communal areas. The bus driver on the 57 will drop you off in front of the youth hostel if you ask, and there is a bus shelter for buses going to Portree just down from the hostel. A walk up Glen Uig and through Fairy Glen is well worth it and I would also reccomend going up Beinn Edra (if you don't mind being a bit imaginative with the path as it peeters out!).

I really enjoyed my couple of weeks in Uig, great staff very helpful and accommodating, very clean rooms and bathrooms and there is plenty of space in the kitchen and dining room . I met some interesting and friendly people in the hostel which was a lifesaver since I was travelling alone. The walk up Beinn Edra is well worth doing and it'll bring you through the Fairy Glen another local tourist spot.

This hostel is a great location to catch the ferry. We are a family of four with two 6 year old girls. We found this hostel totally fine to go and sit in the lounge when the kids were in bed as it is quite a small hostel. We had a double bed and bunkbeds for the kids in a private room, it was divided into two with a wall. There was no plug in the room which was a slight problem for us. Lounge and dining area are open plan which makes it quite sociable. There is a steep drive but no problem for a normal car. Great view from the kitchen window.

What a location! A great view over the bay, especially at sunset. The hostel is at the top of a steep hill, so if cycling/walking up from the village - it's a long slog; howeve, the bus stop is directly outside the end of the driveway. The hostel is a 50's style bungalow, very spacious with an excellent kitchen and bathroom facilities. If you want a decent drink, don't bother with the pub down the road, unless you're happy with a bottle. Head straight for the bar next to the pier, where you can get a decent pint on tap. The post office is suprisingly well stocked with food, drink & alcohol

Don't forget to check out the lovely walk down the Fairy Glen! We ate at the Uig Hotel and had a good meal. They were playing a haunting piece of music whilst we ate and on inquiry were told it's from a C.D. called "Skyedance in Spain". We'd recommend that too. You won't find better views anywhere than from the hostel kitchen.

if you planned to cook your dinner, better to buy your food from the very large co-op at Broadford, which also has a travel information next door and petrol station. The co-op at Portree is rather small, but there is a very nice ice cream shop in Portree near the small co-op, and a fantastic fish&chip shop down the Harbour next to the Lower Deck restaurant near the blue Pier Hotel & the Pink Guest House.

Please note that UIG hostel is closed all day and you cannot access the hostel until 4pm, and cannot check in until 5pm - knowing this is advance woudl have saved us wasting a day hanging arund! All in the all, the hostel is clean, tidy and incredibly well-equipped and I would definately reccommend it. Whilst in Uig, I would definatelty reccommend visiting the Fairy Glen (straight out of a fairy tale) and making a trip to the Portree Highland Games if they are on - an excellent day out!

In July i stayed 7 pleasant nights at the hostel in Uig. for such a small hostel the facilities are excellent. the staff, who at the time were Amanda and Will, were friendly and had helpful suggestions of where to go and what to see whilst on Skye. the kitchen is of a decent size and is well equipped. the view from the kitchen is over Uig harbour, fantastic, especially if like me you are up at dawn! the only down side to Uig hostel is the drive which is very steep, ok if you are in a car or on a motor bike but deadly, if, like me you are no longer fit. but having said that it is well worth staying here.

I stayed for 3 nights with two young children (4 & 5). Initially I felt awkward and a bit apologetic for having the kids in an adult dominated environment but staff (Will) and other guests soon put us at ease. The layout of the hostel and kitchen in particular was great and the views were superb. It's a great base for visiting some beautiful sites. By the end of the trip the kids had decided they'd like to move in permanently!

This hostel provides a nice and huge self-catering kitchen as well as dining room (the best one we have seen in the hostels we have visited). A minus for us was definetely the shared rooms and bath facitlites. An additionally minus was that we were separated into different rooms as they don`t have mixed gender rooms. The view from the house over the uig town and its habour is beautiful as well as the hole island. Eilean Donan Castle is also not far away at least if you have a car and is really worth to visit as well as the small town Plockton (both on scottish main land).

A great Youth Hostel to stay at on a visit to Skye. The facilities were extremely good and the staff really helpful and friendly. The hostel had a wonderful atmosphere and it was very relaxed and laid back just like a hostel should be.
