Lovely situation, friendly area and attractive village. Worth visiting en route to the rest of the island. Did a Wildlife tour, very well done and worth considering. Went to areas you couldn't reach on either the bus or feet which was our situation.

Avoid the dorm rooms at this hostel. The bunks are made of plywood and creak every time someone moves. It was extremely difficult to sleep here in a tiny room with 6 guys. Also the shower temperature continually fluctuated from scalding hot to cold, presumable as people flushed toilets or used other water taps. It may be OK in off-season, but avoid at peak times.

We stayed for 8 nights. Great hostel with friendly & helpful staff ( just two). My six-year-old son enjoyed meeting other kids. Good mix of families & singles of all ages. Kitchen & lounge comfortable. Occasional problems with light in toilet/shower. Internet v. expensive ( £1 for 20 mins - compare Glasgow £1 an hour). One bad night when 3/4 antisocials stayed, waking people up in the early hours etc. That apart, very enjoyable & would re3commend.

Lovely location right on the fantastic Tobermory harbour front. Large kitchen/dining area but still crowded when the hostel is full. Lack of space to relax in, especially when the TV is on in the lounge.

Lovely lounge overlooking the seafront and a great big kitchen. Co op supermaket is nearby. We really enjoyed staying here - it felt like home. Don't forget to visit the isle of Iona; it is a quite a long drive to Ffionphort to catch the short ferry ride but worth it and the views on the journey are fabulous. The fish and chip van on the seafront is excellent. Make sure you go for a walk around the upper levels of the town; great views! We stayed two days and we were very glad we did.

If you need to buy food at the local co-op, make sure you call before 8PM - otherwise it's fish+chips :) If you ride a bike - beware, there isn't (as I far as I could see) a bike shop. I couldn't replace a lost drinks bottle. Bike hire is available from Browns hardware - but numbers are limited. Your alternatives are On-yer-bike at Salen, or Blazing Saddles, Fionnphort.

lovely setting for the youth hostel, plenty of room in the kitchen and plenty of choice in Tobermory if you don't wish to cook. the balti was excellent. excellent island for cycling and climbed Ben More on a fine clear day. the roads are a narrow and time consuming. beware of lorries!! Calgary beach is a must to visit.

A LITTLE GEM, Travelling around with our cycling team, we felt the need the need to let fellow travellers and short break families know what to expect when you visit TOBERMORY SYHA, From the moment we arrived to the time we left was a surprise to say the least, Our senior members had told us tales of dreary bleak atmosphere, outside toilet, cramped rooms etc, Not anymore, the compleat opposite, Great atmosphere, Three Toilet area's, Ladies and Gents separate shower rooms, Lovely rooms with modern bunkbeds some sleep six people, Great kitchen - dining area, and a cosy comfy relaxation area to socialise and watch a flat screen tv. The staff are firm but fair and off duty very nice, minor niggles are that you have to be out of the hostel for a couple of hours, But that is for the reason we all thought was the best of this hostel, IT WAS CLEANED every day while you are out , We rate it 8/10 , would be 9 except there are stairs to the rooms and no lift, so go enjoy the Pink house.

Brilliant location on the Isle of Mull and friendly hostel manager. Lovely harbour view from my dorm window. Mull has a co-op and the kitchen at the hostel is well-equipped and also has lovely views. When I stayed here I travelled by bike and the hostel already had 10 bikes in residence but the hostel manager was very accommodating and found room for us all!

We experienced a full house which was a bit noisy, doors slam and the clock tower chimes every hour throughout the night!! Otherwise a charming place to stay. Our second night was quieter with fewer lodgers and even the clock seemed to chime less.

Do try and do the walk to the Lighthouse. We found another path on the way back which takes you up to the golf course ---- it's steep but well worth the climb. Ignore all the stiles on your left and follow the course round to the end and you'll find your way back down into town. We also sampled the Distillery and had excellent fish and chips from the van on the harbour.

Just loved this hostel; my best hostelling experience so far, and I'm coming back as soon as I can. Small, family-friendly and eco-aware. Right on the harbour too, with great views. All fellow hostellers I met were friendly cyclists, walkers, or nature lovers, and not a telly or Internet addict in sight, although these facilities were available. Great weather every day helped, of course! Don't just book in for one night only, though, or you'll wish you'd stayed longer.

Tobormory Youth hostel is in a fantastic position overlooking the harbour. Because of this it is fairly busy which only adds to the atmosphere of the place. There aren't enough showers but the beds were clean and comfortable. Hopefully we will return

Our trip to Iona was simply wonderful and we loved the four hours cruise (from the pier - explore Mull centre) even though the sea was too rough to go whale watching. Our guide was absolutely charming and so very interesting and the pilot made me feel home in Brittany (no wonder I didn't feel sea-sick - I never do!!!)

As we visited in August this hostel was inevitably busy , but it seemed to absorb the number of people well. The setting on Tobermory Harbour is very attractive and we enjoyed watching the world go by from the common room. There are a number of places to eat in Tobermory but we had fish and chips from the van on the harbour. For self-caterers there is a Co-Op just along from the hostel as well as independent shops and for anyone going on to camp elsewhere on the island it is a good place to stock up.

The location of the hostel is great, overlooking the harbour, near to pub(s), and places to eat. However when we stayed in June and the hostel was at 100% occupancy and I think the hostel is too small to cope with a full house.

Boat trips to the Staffa and the Treshnish isles are expensive, especially for families, but worth every penny at Puffin time on a reasonable day. We went with Turus Mara. A walk on the Treshnish peninsula on Mull is also highly recommended for superb views and evocative deserted villages.

A lovely hostel to stay in. If travelling by bus or ferry then check times as the buses tend to wait for the ferry to come in before departure, but its always good to know when the next one is. Also remember that the Sunday service will always be reduced.

Great location, right in the middle of the little village of Tobermory and the Isle of Mull's single malt whisky distillery. Transport is limit so having ones own transport would be a great is necessary to take full advantage of what this island and the surrounding islands (Iona, Staffa) have to offer.

We did a 2 week tour of Scotland and this was the last place we stayed. It was great! The staff was wonderful and incredibly helpful. There was a whole binder of walks and hikes in the lounge, which was a big plus. Our room was fantastic - we booked a private room expecting 2 single beds, but instead we got bunk beds with a full sized bottom bunk. We had a view of the harbor from the window. There was a drying room, which was also very nice. The bathrooms were kind of in the middle for what we'd seen on our trip - they were by no means disgusting, but they could have been better. I think that was the only downside of this hostel though. All in all, one of our favorite hostels on the trip!
