Being met with a cup of tea by Peter the Warden was just what I needed after cycling up all those hills to the hostel! A wonderful quiet location with the most amazing views across to Skye. Well worth getting up early and climbing Dun Caan as the sun's coming up, for the amazing views across to Skye and Applecross. Cycling along to Calum's Road (even on a rainy day!) is well worth it, just to appreciate the effort that must have gone in to building it! Be prepared for lots of hills!!

Raasay is a walkers paradise. However having a car or bike allows you to explore the northern part of the island. I cycled the single track road that takes you to Brochel castle and Callum's Road. Beyond this, there are footpaths to Fladda and Rona. Fladda can be easily accessed on foot at low tide.

when we booked fot three days, on Raasay, we don't know that it was a island. Finaly we have spend there ,three lovely and happy days. chance that we have a car, to go back the second day to Sconcer to make shoping, because when we arrived the first day, from F. William, with the latest ferry on Raasay, the little village shop was closed. So our advise,is to prevent the visitors to have enough provisions.

Raasay is the jewel of the Hebrides but you do need to allow time to see it properly. Recommend 2-3 days at least.. One day to climb Dun Caan and explore Clachan, inbhir Arais and the woods :; one day for the North end: Brochail Castle, Calum's Road, Torran, Fladdaigh and Caol Ronaigh(Kyle Rona); one day for Hallaig, Screapadail. Na Feàrna(Fearns) and Aoighre (Eyre). Cooking facilities excellent at hostel- you do need to bring your own food and drink, as only one shop and the hotel on island.

well worth the effort of getting there! I did not have time to explore all the Island but would definately go back. As a 'middle of the road', averagely fit cyclist it took me 4 hours to reach Sconser from Armadale, This gave me 30 minutes to wait for the last ferry to Raasay, having arrived off the ferry in Armadale at 2.15pm. [ I had one stop at a nice cafe in Broadford for very welcome tea and cake]. There is a pretty tough climb a mile or two before Sconser. Good book about history of Raasay - 'Callum,s Road' ..... I am currently reading.

Only one shop on the island - In Inverarish. Its opening hours are 9.00-12.00 and 16.00-17.00. Although small, it has a good selection of food but does not have an alcohol licence so be prepared to bring wine, beer etc.

The Raasay shop no longer sells alcohol - so best to buy on the mainland before you travel over - or have a few dry days.

This is a very snug hostel. From the front there are some of the best views in Scotland, and the path to the top of Dun Caan starts only a mile from the front door. The shop has widened its range recently and eating out possibilities are of excellent quality.

A lovely small hostel well worth the effort of cycling the 3 miles up hill to get there! Great views and a very friendly atmosphere.

Remember to bring all the food that you want for your stay as the island has only a small shop with little variety but it has all the essentials.

A visit to Raasay was made with motorbikes. The island roads are not ideal for bikes but with care are acceptable. Calum's road was well worth a visit.
