Papa Westray

Photo of Hostel

Papa Westray is a remote small island of Orkney steeped in archaeology and history but with a healthy thriving local community. The island has fine accessible walks taking in beaches, low cliffs, heath and farmland. Many visitors brave the waters in the summer at one of the unspoilt beaches. There is an RSPB reserve at the north end, and many sites for bird-watching throughout the year. The youth hostel is well situated in the centre of the isle affording fine views in all directions, notably to the small offshore Holm of Papay. The youth hostel has a camping area, lawn and outdoor seating, and is adjacent to the well-stocked community shop. A range of hostel, private and family rooms are available. The dining room doubles up as a community function room and a bar on Saturday nights, when meals are also usually available.
