Lochranza

As winner of the prestigious Green Tourism Business Goldstar Award 2011, Lochranza Youth Hostel is ranked as one of the UK’s top ten greenest businesses. Surrounded by hills and opposite a thirteenth-century ruined castle, this lochside youth hostel has recently been fully refurbished and is a wonderful place to relax. You can observe spectacular wildlife from right on the doorstep or tackle the many trails and ridges. Goat Fell (874m) is the island's highest peak, whilst the finest low level trek on the island, the Cock of Arran trail, starts and finishes at the Hostel. The nearby distillery is arguably the best in Scotland, and utilizes the smooth peaty water that trickles into the glen where deer roam freely. Arran has many other activities on offer including off-road biking, pony-trekking, fishing, golfing and watersports.
