Local Attractions

This hostel is within a community where the Gaelic culture continues to flourish.

Full details are available on the 'Around the Hostels' section of www.gatliff.org.uk  In particular the areas around Ben Mhor, Ben Corodale, hecla and the Loch Drudibeg Nature Reserve are worth visiting. www.snh.org.uk gives some further information.

The local Church of Scotland, 50 yards from the hostel, has an unusual feature, a central communion rail.

Eating & Drinking

There is nothing in the immediate surroundings and so a search through www.isle-of-south-uist.co.uk could yield something suitable. An acclaimed hotel to the south, some 12 miles, is the Polochar Inn www.polarcharinn.com

Mountain Biking

This can be done quite easily from the hostel

Walkers

The sea-shore and machair are adjacent and coastal walks are popular.

Wildlife

The corncrake is to be found close to the hostel and the machair provides much natural flora.

Active & Adventure

Bicycle hire is available at the main road junction some 500 yards away
