If the opportunity arises to sat at Tonge, grasp it firmly and make the most of an excellent & well run hostel. Excellent location backed up by a well run and maintained hostel providing a friendly, warm & atmospheric stay - only surpassed by the excellent home baking which only the strongest willed could resist - I failed many times. Thouroughly reccomended.

Popular, friendly hostel, well placed for exploring the far north west of Scotland. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Great location. The lady warden was very helpful. She booked ferry tickets for the Orkney Island for us. And the homemade cakes were awesome.

Great family hostel, plenty of activities for children and great bright accommodation in family room. Both Wardens were approachable and friendly. Marion and David Forbes and 3 grandchildren, 8, 6 and 3 1/2

Take your time and enjoy the Northern Highlands at their best. Comfy and friendly hostel with an outlook to enjoy - wildlife everywhere and fresh air to breathe. Don't just stop for a single night but use Tongue as a central base.

Stunning location - at the end of June I was sat on the beach (five minutes walk) at 11pm and it was still light. Nice feel to the hostel. Shame that no food is served, nearest place serving eveing food is 1.5 miles away.

said to daughter not to bother with sun cream - she frazzled . lucky the weather was so good ,hot and sunny , beautiful scenery . I do consider myself fortunate that I went to tounge , even though it is isolated . Saw golden eagle - yes it was - I have seen them many times before in austria .This one took off less than 20 feet from us.Finally bar in tounge seems to be tribal .enjoy well worth going .

One of the best maintained Hostels (except for Edinburgh), in the middle of nature and park. No internet...what a pity!

It is 68 miles to John O' Groats - well worth the journey where you can take the passenger ferry across to Orkney

Jewel of Sutherland. This hunting lodge is spacious, clean and presents a good atmosphere. The hostel manager (ive forgotten her name - sorry!) bakes the most fabulous cakes. The lodge sits right on the kyle of tongue and boasts amazing views - we saw a pod of dolphins as we left for our next hostel stop. This hostel is a must visit!
