A really pleasant & easy walk along the sea front from the train/to the ferry, fantastic views across Oban Bay. The new improvements to the rooms are great. No cooked breakfast available when I was there, unless you bring & cook your own.

Great play to stay, everything very clean, bright and well organised. I had stayed here a number of times in previous years with my family and when I was younger and altough it was good then - the difference now is amazing. Great value sea-front place to stay, within easy walking distance of the town centre.

This is a fabulous SYHA. We had a 4 bed room with great ensuite. The kitchen and dining room were also A1. Unfortunately the lounge area was have a ceiling repair done and was unavailable but it too looked like a great area to relax. The location was also fabulous. I would echo other guests comments here and say that Oban Youth Hostel is more of a hotel than a hostel. It is beautifully spacious, clean and well designed/equipped. There is access to everything you could possibly need and want. I chose to have dinner in the hostel on the night that I stayed and for just over £7.00 I enjoyed a wonderful quality, wholesome and beautifully presented meal (salmon, mashed sweet potato, garden veg and a hollindaise sauce- yum!). The chef could not have been more friendly and accomodating and it is certainly a Hostel that I would highly recommend and indeed return to.

Age is no barrier at all and there is a good range but if you are not in a private room and dont want a top bunk - get there early! If you have not got transport it is well worth booking a breakfast when you check in - saves carrying loads of food around and they are extremely good value in comparison with local cafes.

We find a thin, quick-drying towel works better than a thick bulky one and does not take up so much space. Use a face cloth to dry the drips after showering so your towel does not get saturated.

We enjoyed the meals, breakfast and evening meal, which were varied and plentiful. We were able to visit Mull, the Oban Distillary which is worth a visit (I finally learned how whisky's made !!) and taste some great fish and chips on Oban sea-front. Able to get our laundry done quickly and efficiently, breakfast was hearty, the dorm was quiet, and the hostel is not too far a walk from the train or ferry station. (Did I mention the VIEW???!). The trip to Mull/Iona is a great activity in the Oban area. The Oban distillery is a fine place to visit too. A friend had a great walk north of the hostel to the next beach and town (although most of the walk near the water is on the road), and took a bus back to Oban. The McCrag's has great views and the homes on the hill are fun to see. Tesco has wonderful selections for self-catering - don't miss it.

We enjoyed our stay in the Oban hostel- it was nice to sit in the comfortable couches/chairs in the warm TV-room while watching the rain outside. The rooms are good but the best part was when we got to move to the Oban Flat, great rooms with a bath in the bathroom, nice! (One thing we can't stop wondering about tho- why on earth is there a dead lizard hanging outside the Oban Flat building? We found it kinda gross to be honest). There's enough to do in and around Oban, especially the Oban chocolate factory is worth visiting, it's really close to the hostel and they have the most delicious white chocolate fondue you can imagine! Two small points of improvement were the tables in the dining room which felt really sticky and dirty, even tho we tried cleaning them a million times. The other point is the door of the drying room which can't be closed - that doesn't really seem to fit the 'green' and 'environment-friendly' ideology of the hostel.

I thoroughly recommend this hostel. I stayed in the newer building at the back. Excellent well equiped kitchen with EVERYTHING you need. Bathrooms are immaculate, warm and comfortable and showers are a pleasure to use. Beds are comfortable and the carpets are clean. This building is as warm as toast in the winter. Staff are very helpful and reception is manned (and womanned) all the time. In the older victorian building there is a lovely TV room overlooking the bay. Security is good (bring a padlock for room lockers).

The location is nice, directly on the shore and only a few minutes walk from the city centre. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. Unfortunately the shower in our room didn't work and one of the others had only cold water...And there are only a few lockers, so you simply have to trust in your room mates. I liked Oban for the wonderful wildlife: I saw a seal in the harbour, and there were Eider ducks and Black Guillemots nesting there. I liked the visit of the island Kerrera, opposite of the harbour, too. There is a small ferry going there and you can have a nice walk all around the island, which doesn't take to long.Try it out! :-)

This hostel is excellently situated in a grand old house - I always stay here when in Oban

There is not a very good selection of eating places. Especially so considering Oban is supposed to be Scotland's premier place for seafood. The two main fish and chip outlets didn't seem very 'inviting'. However, there are several good places for self-catering shopping.

Friendly and welcoming but its a long and exposed walk from town if its raining so have the wet weather gear handy! Obans is a lovely place and a good base for trips out to the islands if you have limited time.

The hostel was very clean and tidy and the staff were extremely helpful. The hostel was located a very short 5 minute walk into town which was packed with restaurants. We ate in Cuan Mor(?) which I can highly recommend. Overall the hostel was excellent value. Thank you.

If you are staying in Oban, consider visiting some of the nearby islands like Lismore and Kerrera brfore heading off to the better known destinations like Mull and Iona.

A clean and well appointed hostel. Oban is well situated for ferry connections to Mull, Iona and Staffa. Coming from Fort William is much quicker by citylink bus than rail.

When traveling by bike a good route from Obanon quiet roads and with superb coastal scenery is to take the ferry to Craignure then the Fishnish to Lochaline ferry and then on via Strontian and Acharacle to Mallaig
