Inverness is a great hostel and well situated, especially for climbers/walkers looking for a flexible base. There are some excellent local eateries (Jaipur - a new Indian restaurant has an interesting/eclectic menu) None of the local supermarkets/service stations sell maps.

Absolutely fantastic family hostel, great location ideally suited to all tastes. We had a day trip to Skye for Auntie, spent a day at the sports centre for the girls, beautiful walks/cycling along Ness bank for all and Mum got to go shopping and get her hair cut at a top notch salon before we went home. can't think of anywhere else that meets everyones holiday expectations so well.

Directions to the Hostel are fine, but some visitors might think that the ugly, large, white building next to the Hostel is a Prison, surrounded as it is by 3 metre fencing, security lights and a `keep out` messages but they would be wrong, it is in fact the brand new Milburn Academy, a multimillion pound PFI - is this the best we can do?

We thought the Hostel was quite difficult to find. It could have done with being signposted at the roundabout at the top of the hill and also from the shopping centre.

if you are on foot, do NOT walk along the main road beside the railway line and expect to get across the road towards the hostel without taking your life in your hands. Instead go through the shopping centre and up the hill where there is little traffic.

Well located for Inverness town and an ideal staging point for onward travel to Highlands. When I was there in October there were bus loads of foreign students, who it must be said were very well behaved and were not a problem.

The Hostel is very clean, situated in an ideal spot and great for groups to get around Inverness. Could do with more facilities in the kitchen - plenty of cookers but bring your own pots!!!!

A nice hostel and I was fortunate to have my own (small but adequate) room so didn't see the dorms. However I did share a bathroom and there appeared to be enough on the floor I was on. The kitchen is large and has plenty of cookers and utensils and 2 large fridges plus enough shelves for food storage. However for whatever reason sharp knives had to be got from and returned to reception. When I stayed there, mid September, there were visiting school parties and not enough cutlery for them to eat at one sitting or for the other hostellers. Also despite having a very large dining room for breakfast for those not catering for themselves, the self-catering dining area was not big enough. There is a comfortable lounge also. Apart from the school parties on 2 nights the hostel was not busy when I stayed but I imagine it does get busy. It is close to the centre of town which has a good bus station, and close by there is a large Morrisons.

See Glen Ord Distillery which is situated 15 miles west of Inverness. Culloden Battlefield is overrated. Pay the East Coast a vist. A good start is Dunrobin Castle.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in. The SYHA definitely has the best hostels in Scotland and I highly recommend them for cleanliness, security, comfort and facilities.

This is a fantastic hostel in terms of both location and facilities; excellent value too. The only negative is the lack of breakfast choice; i prefer a cooked breakfast: the only option was for continental only.I would have settled for a coffee only and then eaten out, but coffee only was not possible. HOWEVER, there is a Morrisons supermarket nearby with a good cafeteria within the store, so don't let this put you off a visit.

Fantastic start to a fantastic trip using only hostels whilst cycling around the north West of Scotland. No issues what so ever, pricing, friendliness of staff, service, comfort all exceptional. As for privacy, it is a hostel after all, and meeting new people far out weighed any privacy issue. would strongly reccommend hosteling to anyone and everyone.

Too little seating in the self-catering dining room--24 places for a hostel with over 100 beds! Only 32 places in the car park. Kitchen wasn't well organised, had few working ovens, and boiling water wasn't. We were gasping for air at night in the stifling room under the metal roof after a sunny day. Showers were good, though.

Dont ask the locals directions to the hostel-they dont know.Dont go via the residential area- its a maze. Simply follow the railway line away from the station on the parallel road for 800m until you see the only SYHA sign on the left pavement -unfortunately you wont see this in the dark.!

I used this hostel as my homebase from which I traveled Scotland for ten weeks. 9All roads lead to Inverness!) It is convenient, clean, safe, and attractive, with informed, professional friendly staff. I will use the Inverness hostel for the same purpose next summer because it was so successful.

It is an easy level walk from Inverness bus or rail stations, past Morrisons to the hostel. the hostel doesn't sell food or alcohol or provide evening meals so stock up at the Morrisons on your way.

It would be great if we could book lower bunk beds. The headroom between bunks is very low. I am only 5 foot tall and kept banging my head on the bottom of the top bunk when I tried to sit up when getting out of the bottom bunk. I liked the fact that I could charge my mobile phone in the room

Being modern, major advantage is the wi-fi and several stations to plug into. A bit impersonal but you get that with new hostels (health/safety etc) and compensations are the facilities (cooking and restaurant). Friendly chef!

This is a huge hostel within walking distance to the centre of Inverness. The rooms are really clean with comfy beds. Each room has lockers but you need to bring your own lock. The rooms looks exactly like the pictures on the webpage. There is a huge kitchen with everything u need from pots and pans to plates and cups.

The location is very ideal for walking to the city centre or for driving to other tourist areas outside Inverness. Facilities need upgrading but everything you would require is available and the rooms are kept really clean and comfy.

The Hostel is easy to get to - comfortable and well run. The members' kitchen is very well resourced with all necessary items including large fridges. The Hostel is reasonably quiet - as long as you are not in a room overlooking the front entrance - which we were - people congregate and sit there late into the evening and early in the morning. The Hostel is close to a supermarket and convenient for shops and a huge range of eating places. The area around Inverness is stunning.

OK as a base to visit Inverness Clean with friendly staff A pretty clinical and soulless place Communal areas stark and functional Dorms cramped and with flimsy uncomfortable bunks My mattress had springs poking through it Large and well equipped kitchens Washing facilities clean but pokey Lots of coach parties Not what I think a SYHA hostel should be and not representative of my experience of many other hostels
