Eating & Drinking
The village amenities include a warm and friendly real-ale pub
serving evening meals, a post office and a petrol station with
small shop. The village also has a thriving community hall
which houses a heritage centre and café during the summer
season.
Mountain Biking
Mountain bikers will find great variety around Invergarry,
with the trails of the Nevis Range
and Laggan Wolftrax both
within a 45 minute drive away. For a quick fix you can visit
the local Glengarry forest, or follow some of the nearby canal
paths or forest roads for an easier day’s ride. When you come
back caked in the inevitable mud, ask for our power-washer to rinse
your bike clean.
Walkers
We have walks for every ability around Invergarry. Take an easy
stroll along the Great Glen
Way, absorb the local forest scenery at the end of the lane,
tackle our local Corbett, Ben Tee, or bag the local Munros.
For ideas and inspiration:
Glengarry Forest
Coloured waymarkers guide you along paths of various lengths
round the local forest. Follow the stunning river Garry or head up
a short but steep hill to see the Allt na Calliche waterfall and
views of Glen Garry. Time: 1 - 1.5 hours.
Loch Oich
Park at the historic Bridge of Oich and head along a short
stretch of canal to the head of Loch Oich - a great view down the
Great Glen and superb sunsets in the shorter months. Then continue
as far as you like along the Great Glen Way - can you make it all
the way round? Time: As long as you like but 4.5 - 6 hours for all
the way round.
Caledonian Canal
Park as above at the Bridge of Oich but head north east along
the tranquil Caledonian canal. Watch as the boats chug by and
navigate the locks in the summer months. Time: As long as you like,
about 6 miles (one way) if you go all the way to Fort Augustus (and
the Caledonian Canal visitor centre).
Loch Ness View Point
A fairly short there-and-back from the hostel along part of the
Great Glen Way, you'll be rewarded with fine views of the Great
Glen and Loch Ness in the distance. A great spot for lunch. Time: 1
- 1.5 hours.
Aucterawe
The nursery walk - a bit further afield a serene and peaceful
forest awaits you for short marked walks - unless you fancy
tackling the permanent orienteering courses they have set up in the
woods. Time: 1 hour.
Loch Lundie
Park at the west end of the village opposite the community
centre near the old village shop. Head through the gate and the
green lane between the two cottages. Follow the lane through mixed
woodland past the little lochan and views over your sholder to Ben
Tee. Continue a little further to the boat house for fine views
across Loch Lundie to the windfarm or continue further where the
views open up. Return the same way or continue to the Bridge of
Oich for a much longer walk. Time: 1 - 1.5 hours.
Active & Adventure
We can put you in touch with local activity
providers who offer a plethora of outdoor activities to keep you
entertained. If you’ve got an hour to kill on a warm
evening, why not ask Matt to set up the slack-line and put your
balancing skills to the test! Or for a new experience, why
not take our tandem out for a spin around the village and take in
your surroundings on a bicycle made for two.
Wildlife
Invergarry Lodge is set in peaceful
surroundings, so you will always be able to spot a variety of birds
in the garden and even the occasional deer if you get lucky.
Take a drive down the side of Loch Garry towards Kinlochourn for a
chance to see some impressive herds of deer and birds of prey.
