In winter when driving in Scotland always have chains in the car, when you get stuck on the pass or on the moor it is a very long cold night.

Glencoe Hostel is absolutely perfect for all of the easy-to-strenuous mountaineering routes the glen has to offer. The famous Clachaig Inn is also within walking distance.Hostel facilities are ideal and the manager was helpful, friendly and informative.

This is a pretty basic hostel, but great camaraderie in the early morning as serious walkers get down to their porridge before the start of the day. As a new-to-hills-walker I found everyone very friendly and encouraging!

Walks of all levels nearby, and a big walker-friendly inn and restaurant. Also a nice campsite very nearby (which allows campfires) so a group with different needs/tastes could be split between the two. NB No mobile phone signal.

Very nice hostel in an amazing location. Would recommend The Clachaig Inn down the road for good food and beer!
Stewpot - England
Nice large kitchen and dining area with a hot stove to sit by if you really get soaked. Drying room a bit cramped with lack of hanging space especially when the hostel is crowded. Biggest bike shed in Scotland? Make sure you turn up with some basic foods if you arrive by foot or bike as that 1.5 miles can seem a long way after a days travelling in the rain.

It is always a pleasure to visit the Glencoe hostel, although it always seems to be raining! It is one of my favourite hostels in Scotland - the general layout is pleasing. Only travel tips would be - please ensure you take waterproofs, and be careful on the country road along to the hostel - cars which do not give walkers a wide enough berth materialise at speed far too easily.

The hostel was great and the Clachaig Inn is a short walk down the road for food and drink. We returned late after a day out climbing and didn't realize that there was no food served anywhere (even petrol stations) after 9PM in the immediate vicinity! We ended up driving into Fort William to find a chip shop at 11PM.

Yep I liked this hostel, but I feel that not being able to go into your room +kitchen+ bathroom from 10-3pm is not really appropriate considering the location . Many people arrive without a car or on West Highland way and even in summer it can be cold and wet and I think a warm shower and a hot drink are important.

My stay was spoilt by a "Not so young" group of walkers who seamed to be having a competition to see which one of them could make the most noise. I shared a room with a group of soldiers, doing the three peaks, they got up at four in the morning, I didn't know they had gone, thanks lads, I hope you made it.

This was the first time in my life that I have stayed in a youth hostel and I am well past my youth!! Stayed with a pal of mine in a twin room on day one of a round Scotland motorcycle tour. I must say I was impressed with the scenic location and the fact that there was a good pub at the end of the road. Accommodation was good, basic and clean; exactly what is required. Staff were friendly and helpful. toliet and shower facilities were better than expected. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed two night in this friendly hotel, and particularly enjoyed the nice fireplace in the dining room, perfect when it's freezing out there! Staff really friendly (who could speak a bit of French!), kitchen with everything you need, comfy beds... If I really have to make a negative comment, I would say there are not enough female bathrooms on the first floor, even if it was not a problem for us as the hostel was nearly empty! Really good then!

Unfortunately we weren't staying long enough to fully appreciate the facilities of Glencoe Youth Hostel. But we would certainly return! The view from our bedroom window was delightful, the room was comfortable and clean ---- what more could you ask? It was a flying visit ---- we arrived at nine thirty pm and left after breakfast the next morning --- but it merits further investigation.

Great rural location, amazing views (when the cloud cover lifts ;) though just a hop, skip and jump from Glencoe village, the Clachaig Inn for a pint and the A82 to get here, watch out for all the deer :) Hostel staff was very helpful, efficient and friendly, a credit to the SYHA. Hostel was well-equipped, clean and well organised, which is what I find to be typical of SYHA accommodation.

Don't be put off by the plain exterior, the Glencoe hostel is well set out and looked after providing comfortable and clean accommodation with views to highland peaks; but make sure you bring your own food for dinner.

It is now possible to cycle from Glencoe to Ballachulish on a cycle path. A real bonus as the main roads in the vicinity are really busy. You cannot guarantee the weather, but there is always a friendly welcome at the Hostel, If the weather is really bad and you intend climbing, the Corbetts and Grahams in the vicinity are well worth a visit,

If walking the West Highland Way don't rely on the travel information line for bus timetables. The information we were given was wrong so we missed the bus from White Corries to Glencoe village. It might be better to phone the youth hostel and ask them what time the buses are, until the travel information service can manage to fulfil its remit.
