We were in a 3 bed room. We all agreed that we were there to get a good start on to Nevis. The mattresses were terrible. The pillows were terrible. The room had a letterbox size opening in the double glazed unit and the large Velux was not opening. All in all not the best preparation for the climb. The staff were brilliantly helpful. So make sure you get a room with an opening window.

The hostel is wonderfull, and the location is perfect to do the Nevis walk. The staff is really friendly. However, it's a bit far from the main village and it is the most expensive hostel I've been in Scotland, but the quality didn't correspond to. The bathrooms are clean but a bit old, there are only a pair of games and there is not tv area. The kitchen is fine but it does not have free tea or coffee, or something so simple like a meat knife! I didn't take notice of that things in other place, but I was feeling that what I was paying was the fact that it is placed in Fort William area.

The steel Falls should not be missed- Drive along the Glen road until you can't go any further The footpath is at the far end of the car park, it takes about 40 ins to walk to the falls which are amazing with a cable bridge for the adventerous to cross the river to the base of the falls. The footpath continues past the falls through a beautiful raised valley for another 12 miles, so you can make this beautiful walk as long or short as you like. Tip - we left the carpark at 8.00am and had the walk to ourselves gets a bit busier later in the day

Before you book a YH just check what you have to pay for(eg breakfast, towels, and WiFi access) and then consider whether a B&B would better suit your needs. Compare the costs and value for money. If you are a group of young people it may suit you as a group. If you are travelling solo try B&B, you will be surprised what you can get for your money.

Wonderful setting and friendly staff are let down by awful toilets where the cheap toilet seats. are clearly not up the job (oops!). Sound insulation is also poor and large dormitory, ours had 11 beds, don't help you get a decent sleep. Frankly there are better alternatives for similar or only slightly more expensive prices in the area.

Ideally located for a jaunt up Ben Nevis, we were doing the 3 Peaks Challenge and in hind sight should have stayed in a hotel where other guests wouldn't be keeping us awake. That's our fault though as we were up at 5am to start the ascent. Friendly staff, adequate facilities, but it's the location that is the real winner.

Until about the end of May each year there is only one bus down the Glen to Fort William which leaves at 9am. If you are then getting the coach down to Glasgow you have a fairly long wait as it doesn't leave until 11am. Therefore, rather than taking breakfast at the hostel, you might like to consider having it at Morrisons which is adjacent to the bus station. There breakfasts are really good with plenty of choice and eating there helps to while away the time.

I stayed only one night with a friend in April, so the hostel was not very busy! It is a nice place to stay in, big kitchen, clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff... Just a bit difficult to reach since it's quite far away from Fort William. There was ONE bus per day which went there, we took it (probably the best thing to do if it's raining cats and dogs outside!). Otherwise, really good!

I chose this hostel for its perfect location at the foot of Ben Nevis and for shortening the long last day of the West Highland Way by 2 miles. The hostel is now rather run down and in need of refurbishment. We were woken at 4am by three-peakers and west highland challengers coming and going at all hours, so didn't get much rest. Its popularity as a base for these activities is a risk you have to take when enjoying these glorious surroundings.

Anytime after start of May you really need to watch out for the Highland midge, the harsh winter appears to have done nothing to kill it out. Avoid sheltered areas, cover up, use a hood if necessary or the "traditional" remedy Skin So Soft, the wee blighters will get you in the end.

The hostel is in a great location for Glen Nevis and the Ben Nevis normal route and, despite attempts at modernising and becoming more flexible, it still has that YHA ethos pervading, which is both good and bad. It is good to show youngsters the need to make efforts to get on with others etc, but it also has a few quirky elements that let it down a little . If you are on a budget, don't mind sharing in bunk rooms, have no in room electricity and have communal everything, then it is difficult to beat for the price. As soon as you consider taking a room for 2,3 etc at this hostel, you may find alternatives nearby for not much more money. It was good for what we wanted - and "did what it said on the tin" - but it may not suit everyone

This is another lovely hostel, though I did find the 15 bedded room I slept in too cramped and had far too many trying to move about in such a small space and very disturbed sleep with so many people having differing going to bed and getting up times. Otherwise the kitchen is big and well stocked with equipment, eating areas great and nice chill out lounge area.

There's not really much to do at Glen Nevis unless you plan to climb the mountain! If you have a car you can travel further afield to Fort William, Glencoe and Glenfinnan. Having said that it's a great hostel for walkers, with a large drying room for wet clothes & shoes. There aren't enough common areas for people to sit - when the hostel is busy the tables & sofas go fast! We had some of our food stolen from the fridge despite labelling - but this wasn't really the fault of the hostel.

Thoroughly impressed by the staff, facilities and location; this all makes for a fantastically good value way to access Ben Nevis and the surrounding hills. My wife, having never stayed in a hostel before and arriving with all the normal prejudices, left the hostel as a SYHA convert; she now heartily recommends the experience to all our friends. Thanks

Malgré la beauté des lieux et la gentillesse du personnel, la chambre double que nous avions sentait beaucoup l'humidité. De plus, le bruit de la tuyauterie était constant et très fort. Plutôt décevant.

Busy hostel with people climbing Ben Nevis and walking the West Highland Way. Staff welcoming and helpful. Good amount of parking. Easily accessible from Fort William.

Great location. Walked out the front door to the trailhead for Ben Nevis. The hostel was nice and clean and the staff was very helpful. Would love to visit again. We were traveling with three teenage kids and felt very secure.

I give only 2 stars for security/privacy, only because there are no personal lockers in the dorm rooms - of course, most people using the hostel (when I've been there) are backpackers so most belongings are wet/dirty/smelly clothes that probably wouldn't be locked away anyway...

A comfortable, clean, well organised and well equipped base for climbing the Ben, starting or finishing the West Highland Way, or walking the many other fantastic routes in this beautiful area.

Great hostel, in great location. Opened our curtain in the morning to the majestic view of the great Ben, fantastic. Wouldn't hesitate to use this hostel again.

The campsite restaurant next door serves excellent evening meals. There is also a good Chinese restaurant in town, at the far end of the high street.

Definitely stay here if your climbing the Ben. Good clean and tidy hostel. Though I wouldn't bother with the continental breakfast on offer. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Would definitely stay there again.

Glen Nevis. Great hostel, well equipped kitchen, good secure cycle shed, friendly knowledgeable staff. Excellent pub (Ben Nevis Inn) 20 mins walk away, hostel couldn't possibly be closer to the Ben Nevis path, bus stops right outside for Fort William and also for the Lower falls at the top of the Glen. Whilst at the hostel I climbed Ben Nevis via the Arete, traversed the Ring of Steall, cycled partway along the Caledonian Canal to Spean Bridge and back, and finally a long day hike to Corrour a
