Glen Affric

"One of the most beautiful Glens in Scotland"
Photo of Hostel

Situated 8 miles from the nearest road, our remote Eco-Hostel offers an unforgettable experience. A former stalking bothy on the Affric Estate, comfortably furnished with wood panelled walls and stoves in the common room and kitchen (fully equipped incl gas hobs and oven). A wind turbine and solar panels provide electricity, and there is even a hot shower! Our location is frequently described as “the most beautiful Glen in Scotland” but you will require effort and planning to get here. The recommended route is from the east, where you will travel through ancient Caledonian Pine forests along the shores of Loch Affric and beyond, overlooked by some of the highest and most remote mountains in Scotland (allow 3-5 hours from car park to hostel). This track provides a great challenge for experienced mountain bikers (a wee bit bumpy) and wildlife is easily spotted on your journey, although deer regularly graze outside the hostel. NB: Due to our remote location there is no shop in the hostel or mobile phone coverage and guests MUST bring their own sleeping bag, plus food and drink. There are no signs to the hostel, so a good map, compass, torch and appropriate clothing are essential. Weather can change in an instant and streams can become difficult to cross after prolonged rain. Please be prepared and check weather forecasts.
