A fantastic location, out on its own but close enough to the facilities in Gairloch. This hostel has no TV and no Internet and is the ideal place to get away from it all. The views are stunning and the hostel is cosy and welcoming. The staff couldn't be more helpful. If I could visit only one Scottish Hostel this would always be my choice.

Fabulous location, and fabulous views across the sea to the Isle of Skye. But if you are relying on public transport to get here it is not so good; probably a 3 mile (5 km) walk from the nearest bus stop. The staff are really helpful, and the facilities are very good. But there can be lots of midges, so do be prepared for them.

This hostel is situated overlooking Loch Gairloch. The location is fantastic with a walk along the coast to the small fishing village of Gairloch Carn. There are some good places to eat to suit all budgets and the self-catering facilities at the hostel are more than adequate to suit all your catering needs. The views from the dining room and lounge are stunning. The hostel has a very homely, cosy feel to it. We would recommend this hostel to anyone visiting the west coast of Scotland.

Whatever you do, in the summer, just before going tobed, or having breakfast, give yourself 10 mins of downtime, to sit in the quiet room and look out of the window over the loch.what a way to start or finish to the day.

Carn Dearg must have one of the best views in Scotland. The view from the quiet room over to the island of Skye is stunning. On a clear day/evening make your way up to Melvaig to see the whole of the Outer Hebrides on the horizon. Other beautiful coastal locations are at Redpoint south of Gairloch and the world famous gardens at Inverewe a short drive/bus journey/bike ride north. If you can make it south of Gairloch on the Redpoint Road, stop off at the Badachro Inn - amazing location and good food. The conservatory in the Mountain Coffee Co in the village is really relaxing for a coffee and scone. There's internet access in the community centre at the school, next to the museum (also worth a visit) in the centre of Gairloch. Walking in the area is good - some coastal walks and inland there's Slioch and the Beinn Eighe Mountain Trail - both beside Loch Maree.

A stunning location. I arrived with my 2 brothers in preparation for a monster 4 munro bagging trip the next day into the hills behind Slioch (Fesherfield). Great staff and a fantastic view across the water from the social room. I will definately be coming again with the family in tow. Note the nearest pub available was about 5 miles away.

The hostel far exceeded our expectations! The setting is magnificent, with amazing views of the mountains and islands. It is warm and comfortable, and our group are all wanting to repeat the experience, along with the others who could not join us. We were lucky with the weather, but there was an indoor area where we could have sheltered until opening time. Hearty thanks are due to the warden, who was truly welcoming and approachable.
