Excellent central location for a good number of Munros, tops and hills. Even in the shorter days (mid November) it is possible to manage a pair of Munros safely in daylight. An Caisteal and Beinn a'Chroin have a couple of heart in mouth moments for less experienced walkers coupled with probably the wettest walk out in the world. Best pint is to be found in the Crianlarich Hotel under the bridge.

The approach to Cruach Ardrain and Beinn Tulaichean from the hostel car park along the forestry track is an option I'd recommend, rather than the track from the farm - also no hastle with parking, no driving, less time wasted. Only for experienced hill walkers though.

The location of this youth hostel (near a train station and near the West Higland Way) is very convenient and causes a very high frequency of travelers. The hostel was very busy while I was staying there so I would recommend it for people who have very clear plans what they want to do and know how to reach their destination starting there. If you plan on staying for more than one night and go on several day trips, you probably need some kind of transportation (car, bus or train) and be well prepared. The train ride (West Higland Line) will definitely give you a lot of beautiful views. The line is probably most popular for the Glenfinnan Viaduct but there are a lot of other things as well. During the summer it is also possible to travel part of the journey in a historic train. The local store is quite small but has a range of easy to cook dishes and basic items.

We have returned to this hostel many times now as it is in a great location for the many hills in the area. The staff are always friendly, it's clean and has great facilities. The only thing I find is the duvets are too warm for summer, my partner also commented on this (without me mentioning it). Otherwise a great place to stay.

Set in the hills it's a great place to stop and crash out for the night. After a hard days cycling from Inverness it was a great welcoming site. Especially after the Glencoe climb. Situated next to the railway for the traveller and explorer to the area. There was a couple of eateries but I plumped for the pub down the road. Good food. As per usual, good facilities, bike storage, drying room and self serve kitchen. New to me but very good idea. Full use of the kitchen to cook and prepare your own food. Just make sure you wash up. It's only fair.

Check out the arts centre and gallery, which is very close and opposite the Youth Hostel. I didn't discover it until too late as its not obvious from the Youth Hostel what it is. Crianlarich is great if you're getting into the hills. If however you're usung it for more than a one night stopover or rest day on the West Highland Way the afternoon closure means you'll have a lot of time to kill outside while the excellent lounge in the hostel lies empty for 6 hours or so. Kitchen and showers are pretty good though.

Great climbs on Ben More and Stob Binnein then B. Lui and B. a Chleibh. For the last two the (shorter) route starts by crossing a wide river by 'stepping stones' which are almost non-existent then a very boggy mile through the forest. Worth it all of course! If your at the east end of Loch Tay the Crannog is a very well worth while place to experience, where you may well be amazed at how they lived thousands of years ago and you can try your hand at doing it their way eg making fire, spinning wool, using an ancient lathe etc.

A large and well-equipped hostel at the mid point of the W Highland Way within walking distance of 11 Munros. Could not be closer to transport links! Masses of space to cook, eat and sit around and chat - the hostel's position means you're guaranteed to meet a wide range of people, obviously most of them baggers or doing the Way. Shop and pub round the corner too.

A large and busy hostel with a friendly staff. Excellent location (in the centre of Crianlarich with a large car-park, near a shop, and within easy reach of dozens of Munros) Facilities (drying room, kitchen, dining-room, TV room) adequate.

Very convenient location for an overnight stop if travelling up from Southern England and going on further north or to the Western Isles. Also a good location for bagging some of the Munros in the area and as an overnighter if you're doing the West Highland Way.

The area around Crianlarich is superb its hard to believe that in real terms you are so close to a major city it is still possible to be out all day and see no one!!

Very convenient if you're looking to break up a long bus/train trip to the Highlands. Close to station & bus stop. Also the halfway point on the West Highland trail.

This was the first night of my holiday and my first stay in a Youth Hostel and I did not really know what to expect. It was wonderful the facilities were great it was lovely and clean the staff really friendly and the other guests all chilled out and fab. There is a shop just down the road for everything you could need and it is a stones throw from the train station. I liked it so much I stayed on the way home too

It is always a pleasure to stay at Crianlarich Hostel. The location is great for a lot of activities in the area and it is close to the railway station providing easy access to the wider area.
