Cairngorm Lodge

Stayed as an alternative to camping and will definitely do it again. Had a great room which afforded privacy for myself and my children. Plenty social areas to give our party space to themselves to play a game or 2 in the evening. Caroline was exceptionally helpful.

Despite the rainy weather (what else is new?), we really enjoyed our stay in the Cairngorm Lodge, thanks to the amazing landscape and the friendly and helpfull staff. We spend most of our days walking/hiking/cycling and of course watching the football - too bad the Octopus was right after all! Point of improvement --> Not all rooms have electric sockets, so it's hard to charge the battery of your camera/mobile phone etceteras

Hostel is just off a quietish road, not on the loch shore as I'd imagined, but only a few minutes walk to bueatiful views at loch morlich - woods, long sandy beach, pretty loch and mountains beyound. Also a childrens woodland playarea near the beach. Really enjoyed our cooked breakfast at this hostel, nice food, friendly staff and lovely views from the dining room, plenty of birdlife on the garden birdtable in the foreground and cairngorms in the background. What a lovely way to start the day!

Ask for directions to Glenmore Lodge. A great place to relax in their bar after a long day on the hills with a pint and some good food.

The hostel easy to find and the staff friendly and very helpfull. We will certainly use the hostel again and will be recomending it to friends on our side of the border who want to get away skiing or climbing for a summer or winter break.

If you do not have transport make sure you carry in sufficient food as eating out is limited. The night we were there intended walking to Glenmore Lodge Bistro to eat, but when we got there it was open for drinks, but no food that night due to a function despite their website indicating availability every night.. This seems to be a Scottish thing the service industry thinks it is run for its convenience and not the traveller. (I am Scottish but our service industry is way behind rest of Europe) Shop at campsite has very limited provisions

Great location for Skiing and Walking with easy public transport access. A regular bus connects the hostel to Aviemore which in turn has good train/bus connections. It's a great place for a car - free experince!

We visited the Cairngorms in February half-term to take our daughter skiing and as expected because of the fantastic snow and conditions the mountain was very busy, however, we were able to access the free car parks at all times and used the free shuttle bus service from the Coire Cas car park. We would advise people to car share to lessen the burden on spaces. We would advise you to purchase a lift pass on a daily basis as the weather on the mountain can close in quickly, wind speed acceleration closes the lift system, and visibility is much reduced. The cafe's on the mountain are excellent value for money, but again be prepared for a long wait at peak times. Patience and good humour is needed on a regular basis to ski in the Cairngorms, but the vista over Loch Morlich with a sunset from the top of Cairngorm is worth every wait.
