Great place to spend the night. We were on a mountain bike tour of the Cairngorms and arrived at 9.00 pm to a very warm welcome. Rooms are spacious and clean and there is a locked shed to store bikes. Very filling continental breakfast in the morning although be warned after 9 .30 pm you won't find anywhere to eat in Braemar - so it's the local convenience store and the microwave at the hostel. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Enjoyed having affordable private room (though had twin instead of double, so hubby and I ended up squeezing into a single bed). Incredible location- stunning views from every window! Excellent kitchen facilities, nice hot shower, heard no noises. No complaints on facilities. Only downside was desk not being staffed for many hours per day and staff not being able to answer questions about activities in area. Would def stay again!

This is a spacious, wonderfully situated hostel in quite large grounds with plenty of wildlife and right next to open country. You can be on the low hills nearby in minutes and with a bit more effort onto the magnificent Cairngorm Mountains. Braemar is a popular tourist destination so you are bound to meet interesting people from various countries at the hostel.

I was going to stay in a hotel for my skiing trip at Glenshee, but decided a hostel would be more sociable, as I was on my own. I met lots of interesting people (several who could have afforded a hotel) but wanted the sociable hostel experience. We all had a great time together.

I stayed at this hostel in mid / late december 2010 when the temp was down o %f luckily the hostel was nice & warm which is more than can be said of Braemars main hotel bar which was both freezing & expensive. So if you fancy a few drinks at night best to bring your own drink & enjoy the friendly atmosphere the hostel lounge has to offer as there is not much nightlife unlike in Aviemore. I most certainly will be back in the near future.

Braemar itself is a strange place, a village really but with some big old hotels and one good gear shop. Don't be put off by drive up Glenshee which can be dour on a grey day. Great hostel (though had problem with drying room when we arrived), superb Monroes all around. On rest day, nothing to do in Braemar, try Ballater.

This hostel is created from a large house and therefore has limitations on space when compared with purpose built hostels. There is a very small common room space. All the rooms apart from the kitchen seem to be filled with large tables that looked and felt like they could do with a good clean. Ours was quite sticky. There were too few showers. Thankfully we didn't need to use the drying room. OK for one night, but would not recomend it for a group stay.

The staff is very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome and secure. The rooms are large enough to give you some private space, the dininghall and livingroom (which even got a tuned piano to use!) are cosy and welcoming and the kitchen is large with pleanty of storage possibilities as well as sevearl hobs which is helpful if busy! Braemar youth hostel is well appointed and friendly. Braemar itself is a small village with limited, if the basic facilites. Don't expect a Supermarket or pub although there are a few Hotels with bars that more than welcome walkers. If going for a long walk, plan ahead and be down early or cook in the youth hostel. Gordons Restaurant closed at four in the week, this was late June, and the various hotels, and Bed and Breakfasts closed at eight. There is one chip shop on the corner as you go into Braemar which also closed at eight. These times will vary of course due to the time of year.
