Make sure you take a spare blanket / sleeping bag/ hot water bottle with you when you stay here in the winter as the upstairs bedrooms are baltic.

Had a great time on the hill and the hostel was a warm friendly base to return to each evening. A perfect break, with Alpine conditions at Scottish prices. Charles

Excellent stay, mid week so the hostel was quiet, we more or less had the run of the place, so if you have time mid week, can't think of a better place to be and excellent value. Th skiing was good too.

Get up early to hit Glenshee when the sun is shining and it's a weekend. Perfect to be travelling in from the North - avoid the traffic coming up from the South!

We booked the whole hostel for a weekend, and had a great time. The location is brilliant, if slightly less rain the outdoor possibilities are great. The staff is very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome and secure. The rooms are large enough to give you some private space, the dininghall and livingroom (which even got a tuned piano to use!) are cosy and welcoming and the kitchen is large with pleanty of storage possibilities as well as sevearl hobs which is helpful if busy! Want to thank all the staff for your friendliness!

Quiet location on the edge of town. Braemar has a full range of shops and everywhere is in walking distance. KItchen may be bit crowded at bust weekends but that only leads to creating the unique Hostel interaction. Huge range of hills, rivers, valleys to explore.

We really recommend this hostel. The staff was most friendly and the facilities more than enough.

Very centrally placed hostel in a fine old property. The bedrooms however are very basic and if you have a room on the top floor you will have a bit of a trip to the loos (especiallythe gents). Kitchen facilities good abd great lounge with a roaring (gas) fire and plenty of comfy sofas.

Be sure to visit Linn of Dee to the east of Braemar where there are some great walks and some spectacular falls and a visit to the composting toilet is a must (it won a design award) Fife Arms good for a few pints in the evening.

Reasonable value for a stay in Braemar. Campsite is expensive and nearby bunkhouse is rather cramped.

Reception doesn't re open'til 5 p.m, so if you arrive before then, be prepared to carry your stuff around the village, or leave it in the lounge.

The hostel is well situated, on the edge of the village, close to shops and pub. It is in a strategic position for climbing plenty of worthwhile mountains and for good way-marked walks, as well as a good starting point for walking through the Lairig Ghru to Aviemore. Buses from outside Aberdeen railway station to Braemar are frequent.

This was our favourite hostel of the lot. Plenty of room in the common areas, good facilities including a pool table. Close to the village centre and some nice walks to do in the surrounding area.

Braemar youth hostel is well appointed and friendly. Braemar itself is a small village with limited, if the basic facilites. Don't expect a Supermarket or pub although there are a few Hotels with bars that more than welcome walkers. If going for a long walk, plan ahead and be down early or cook in the youth hostel. Gordons Restaurant closed at four in the week, this was late June, and the various hotels, and Bed and Breakfasts closed at eight. There is one chip shop on the corner as you go into Braemar which also closed at eight. These times will vary of course due to the time of year.
