Excellent base for skiing on Cairngorm. If you're using the bus to the slopes in half term, catch the early one, as the later one can fill up.

Aviemore is an ideal hostel if travelling by train as it is only a short walk (about 10 mins) from the rail station. I enjoyed a trip on the cairngorm mountain railway. The Strathspey preserved railway at Aviemore is also worth a visit. It is also possible to do day trips by train to Inverness & The Kyle of Lochalsh.

This is top hostel location in winter as it is only just off the main road and within easy walking distance of the facilities in Aviemore. We recommend the Cairngorm hotel for a beer after a day on the hill. The hostel is also ideally situated for the bus up to Coire Cas and it also stops in Glenmore if you would rather cross-country ski or do any of the hills via Ryvoan.

An excellent base for exploring the area and within easy walking distance of most ameneties. This is a friendly hostel with good facilities and enough space that anyone travelling with teenagers can find a quiet place to relax! Set in lovely grounds with nice walks from the hostel, this is an ideal place for families, skiers, walkers or climbers.

The hostel is clean, the staff friendly. The kitchen area has good facilities & the dining area is a good size. The showers were not very warm, even though there are signs up everywhere warning the water is very hot. We stayed 4 nights & never had a hot shower. There is a key code in use for the front door after 11pm so you don't have to worry about getting locked out if you're out for a drink. just remeber to ask staff for the code before you go out.

Fantastic hostel in a great location. Just a 5 min walk into town centre and train station. We enjoyed it so much we decided to stay an extra night there. Staff are very accommodating and freindly, they even advised us that we should have a private room as my son was only 11, something I never knew. The only downside is that the main lights didn't work in the common room, which the staff were aware of, and cleaning of the kitchen/dining room takes place around lunch time, would have been nice to know then we could have made alternate arrangements. There is a large hotel complex, complete with fitness suit and swimming pool just down the road from the hostel, ideal for rainy days but beware it is expensive to use the facilities. The rooms were spotlessly clean as were the toilets/was rooms. Staff use the washing machines and dryers during the day so it can be awkward if the hostel is busy. We will definitely be staying here again, and would recommend it to anyone

A lovely place to stay. Country surroundings but within walking distance of shops, cafes and activities. Great fun with children as they can help with cooking and washing up, and also enjoy some freedom in the hostel and grounds. Also parents can tuck children up at night (when old enough) and retire to common room to read and chat. Its dry when it rains and there is a great drying room for all the wet clothes! A good alternative to camping in our unreliable summers!

Aviemore youth hostel is located within an easy distance of the shops and there is a good Tesco's nearby open all week. There are lots of good walks and places to go around Aviemore (the distilleries and the cooperage among them). If you plan to wash you clothe while there be aware that staff uses the washing machines and dryers all morning and afternoon. But we never had any problems getting the washing done in the evening. There's also a freezer - belonging to the staff, but you can use for things you are going to need the next morning.
