This hostel is a lovely quaint wee but'n'ben 100 yards from the beautiful beach, it has splendid views over the Summer Isles and beyond and don't miss the sunrises and sunsets. This is what getting away from it all is about. I'll be back.

This was definitely the best place of our Scotland trip. The children loved our room, the creek passing by the hostel and the dog of the keeper "Sky". It is such a relaxing beautiful place, beyond belief. You wake up, get out and have your breakfast enjoying the magnificent panoramic view. 5 minutes walk and you are at a small lonley sandy beach. The keeper of the hostel was very helpful and friendly! If you look for a remote place, this is just perfect.

If you are in this area please visit the Piping cafe in the village of Achiltibuie about 1 mile before the hostel as they serve the most wonderful food including soup (we would recommend it) home baking and sandwiches at very reasonable prices. There is also a lot of information and local history about the the area.

If you want a big city hostel with dozens of bathrooms and a Tesco next door then obviously this isn't the hostel for you. If you want a really friendly hostel, with absolutely spectacular views, with really nice dorms (the beds in the female dorms were really comfy and the views magnificent) in a brilliant part of the world then come and stay here. The bus driver dropped me off and picked me up at the top of the path down to the hostel (he offered), the cafe just before Achiltibuie sold really yummy food in a really nice room, and the shops in Achiltibuie and Polbain sold all the essentials, so even without a car I had no problems getting there/away and buying food. Great location to walk Ben More Coigach and some of the smaller hills near it, and I walked to the beach in Achnahaird in about 3 hours (really easy walk next to quiet roads). Had a nice kitchen/dining room and shower room, and the best drying room ever. Could easily have stayed more than 3 nights.

A lovely location, small but friendly and Cody with great walks along the coast & hills around. Kept spotlessly clean by Carolynn who with her dog, Skye were very helpful

This is the most beautifully located hostel that I have ever visited. I thought that I must have died and woken up in paradise.

Just come, you will love it but please try to take your litter up the slope to the bin as it is an arduous task for the warden.

Wonderful small hostel with very friendly and helpful manager. Gorgeous views. We stayed in dormitory accommodation which was spacious and comfortable. The views from the hostel door are superb.

If you are looking for a remote location with incredible beauty, this is it. You do have to walk down a slight incline for 1/2 mile, so travel light. There is no road in, which is part of the charm. It is worth it, though. You will coocoo birds in the distance and watch lambs cavorting through the gorse. Note: this is an old croft house so the dining are serves as both dining and lounging.

Heaven on a hillside! Be prepared for a walk down a very rough and rocky track to the hostel but the rewards far outweigh the challenge. Described as rustic, but this wee 'but and ben' has every facility you could need and best of all is the location. Waking to the breathtaking views of the Summer Isles makes your heart sing. I highly recommend a visit for those who want to experience the best of Scotland and the SYHA.

Since this hostel is off the beaten track, an eight-minute walk from the road, where you must leave your car, it is perhaps not the most convenient place in which to stay. But, if you have a sense of adventure,n and a stout pair of waterproof boots, then this hostel is for you.

Boat trip to the Summer Isles can drop you off on the first trip and pick you up on the second giving time for a swim as well as a walk - there's a simple but friendly cafe on Tanera Mor to warm up in!

Although basic and rustic, the hostel has great character and is a brilliant place to 'get away from it all' and socialise with other hostellers.

I thought this was a lovely hostel to stay in. I liked the fact that you had to walk the last bit to it as you had to do when we were young. The warden obviously takes pride in looking after and maintaining the hostel which is not easy when in a remote location.

Though a bit out of the way, I enjoyed the privacy and quietness of staying there. I'd like to recommend fellow travellers to consider staying there while touring that part of Scotland.

i really enjoyed this hostel. but would recomend that if you arrive by car only take what you need as it is long wall on a rough path. and it will save you carrying it back up...

The local pub/hotel appears to offer good food and would be a nice place for an evening out but was not very welcoming for wet/bedraggled strangers. It felt like a small modern cafe/bar with similar prices.

Absolutely beautiful location! Highly recommend the boat trip round the Summer Isles! Lots to see and do, not least the stunning black and white beach (black rocks, white sand) a bit further north along the coast from Achiltibuie...

This is a cosy and bijou little gem of a hostel. I had a real sense of being outside due to the closeness to nature...very tranqil!....The short walk was not a problem even with kids...highly recommended

Accessable only on foot, amazing location, great wildlife and views. Travel light and remember all you need as it's an uphill walk back to the car. Take all rubbish away with you as the staff member has to take all you leave up the hill too so only polite to remove your rubbish and there is a recycle plant on the main road. Easy going peaceful location to escape the world. Amazingly though it does have cell reception so beware - you can't fully escape! Nearest beach beautiful but a scramble down some rocks at the end - adds to the pleasure and the beach at Achahaird (on the way in) is amazing too, large horseshoe sandy beach well worth a trip to. Although the youth hostel is locked during the day we did find the toilets were unlocked which is a godsend as we found no beaches around had toilet facilities, with the only other ones being on the main road near the recycling.

A truly magical place. The views from the hostel are stunning. The weather was perfect and even the clegs didn't get us down. The Cafe at the Piping school does an excellent breakfast too. Highly recommended.

A beautiful little hostel in a delightful situation, with mountain and sea views. A really homely atmosphere.

I would suggest that more details could be given re-transport to the hostel. It is remote and there is only one bus which leave Ullapool at 3.30 pm to accommodate the school children. However, the only bus from Inverness to Ullapool in the afternoon doesn't arrive until 4.30pm. For hostellers using public transport this can be problematic. I had to resort to 'hitching' a lift which was again dreminding me of my student days !! Perhaps in the hand book, this could be given more detailed information, as presently the icon shows .25 miles from bus, which is true but very limited service. For car users this is not a problem but for the walkers or bus users, more information would be helpful. Thank you.

This is a basic self-catering hostel, with the most amazing location and accessible only on foot, though you can get your cycles down there. The kitchen facilities were really good, in fact, better than some larger hostels we've stayed in. We stayed there for both cycling and walking, which are both excellent in the area, but remember that the hostel is located at the end of a dead end road, so it's a long way back to the Ullapool road. We stayed 5 nights in pretty poor weather in May and in retrospect should have moved on earlier, but you may strike lucky. Overall a good place to stay. Great cycling and walking on the peninsula even if you stay at low levels, good for bird watching and sea cliff climbing. If in Ullapool, there's a really good cafe on the seafront, called the Frigate, I think - excellent pizza's, cakes, soups etc. and reasonably priced too. Tesco had lots of good Scottish ales.

I think the signs from the road down to the hostel need to be clearer, we got a bit lost to begin with.

Comfortable, basic hostel in a lovely situation. You come here to see the scenery, not to enjoy luxurious facilities. I had a fine time.
