Recommend the Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha if you are in need of good coffee. Suggest the Villiage Inn at Arrochar for a good meal. You can take the Ferry to Tarbet from April to October.

Great service from the warden - faultless and friendly. If you're having a drink - best to en route to the hostel. A bit dark to find your way after the pub!!

If you're walking the WHW don't underestimate the last few miles from Balmaha - it's just that bit further than you think it's going to be. Leave in good time if you're making for Inverarnan. North of Inversnaid it is VERY slow going

Book ahead of time as this hostel gets very busy with West Highland Wayers.

Hostel is situated half way up the East side of the Loch, so a bit of a trek to get there (even by car)! if you are on your way North, you have to drive back down by the East side of the Loch and up again on the West side, making for quite a long journey.

Breakfast is good though not high on protein. Altogether highly recommended. Had wonderful lentil soup for supper at hotel less than 5 minutes' walk south.

One of the best locations to stay at, but used by lots of groups of young people as it's near Glasgow and near start of West Highland Way. If you don't mind that it gets a definite recommendation.

Do bring spray or salve for midges if you wanna go outside especially in late evening. We did BBQ on the lakeside were beset by clouds of midges and their bites are so so so itchy and last for several weeks!

My previous YH experience led me to assume a cooked breakfast was always available. This was not the case at Rowardennan.

One of the most beautiful settings and warmest welcomes imaginable. If walking the West Highland way, do not be discouraged by the seemingly interminable distance between Balmaha and Rowardennan, this hostel makes the journey worthwhile! Do not forget the Skin so Soft!

Loch Lomond is beautiful at any time in any weather but on the night I stayed in the hostel to sit at the lochside in the evening once all the daytrippers had gone home and experience the sheer tranquillity of the place was truely sublime.
