Nice, clean hostel with friendly staff, good-sized rooms (3 beds in mine) with ensuite facilities. Trains to Glasgow take around 40 mins. Station is a 20-30 minute walk (depending on your usual pace) uphill. If driving up, don't be put off by station car park being full - 2 or 3 other car parks within easy walking distance. High chance of spotting badgers during an evening stroll, and riverside walk beautiful. Sadly didn't have time to visit the heritage site, but will definitely stay again.

Getting to hostel from Lanark train or bus interchange was difficult. There was no mini-bus when I arrived in the evening and it failured to appear at the advertised time on Staurday morning. The warden in the hostel said it was a bit "haphazard" at the weekend. Site should make it clear its a limited service. Lovely clean hostel, friendly staff, beautiful location and New Lanark Heritage site is brilliant

When travelling in Scottish hostels, you will seldom find a freezer section in the self-catering kitchen, but it's always worth asking the catering kitchen to store your blue blocks for you in their freezer. I have asked several times and never been refused.

This was a very comfortable stay that will make me happy to return to hostelling after many years away. The location in the heart of iconic New Lanark is stunning, allowing the chance to explre when the crowds have gone away. Parking is adequate, despite the road signs which initially discourage drivers from taking vehicles down. There is also a secure bike shed, a bonus for end to end cyclists in area with few other facilities.

To get to New Lanark, you have to drive down a steep hill, so be aware. Also, the day I arrived, there was a food fair on at the Heritage Site, so parking was tight, but after that was over, there was no problem at all. There's some take-aways in Lanark town, if you fancy that. I found the sat-nav wanted to take me the wrong way to the youth hostel, so I had to use my own initiative to get there. (I think it was confused by the valley!)

Within easy reach of two of Scotlands major cities & set in the Beautiful Lanarkshire countryside, It is a warm and friendly hostel location in a heritage site. A perfect location for visting the Edinburgh Festivals and other activities within the area. Value for Money in my opinion and a special mention to the staff who were very helpful and had a breadth of knowledge on the local area and beyond.

Check out the badger sett in the reserve. However, don't be surprised to see badgers in the car park too!

A Hostel with good facilities set in a fascinating location, lovely short walks around the Hostel and a wealth of history make this a great venue whether it is just for an over night stop or a base to exploor the Scottish lowlands.

If eating out go up to Lanark to find somewhere, as the local hotel was very poor value for money.
