This hostel is not as central as might be, but is situated in a smart and attractive part of Glasgow, near to Kelvin park and the museums. I came in winter, for nine nights including Christmas, and used the third night free promotional offer; very good value, and a pleasant Christmas.

Visit Kelvingrove and allow enough time to really "see" it. There are 3 lovely gift shops to spend only a little for a small gift, or spend too much. The Glasgow Library is definitely worth a quick spin through..beautiful architecture with free WIFI/ internet computer use.Tea and scones at the Sauchiehall Willow Tea Room ...definitely a must! Glasgow Cathedral and Burrell Museum. George Square and City Council-take a camera.

A good inexpensive place to stay in Glasgow if you do not mind being about half an hour's walk from the centre. The hostel is in a grand, if slightly worn, building. Unfortunately I arrived and left in the dark, but it looked as if there might have been a good view by daylight. The hostel has excellent facilities, including some individual en suite rooms. I stayed en route from the South of England to Knoydart. When I asked the staff for the best way to get to Queen Street Station, the directions they gave me were considerably better than Google Maps, and took into account that I am female and that it waas a dark November morning, which was most helpful.

The site creates unrealistic expectations. I am an older hosteller and found this hostel in comparison to be decrepit adn even grim. The location is inconvenient up a steep hill, you need to make your own bed, the mattresses were lumpy, there were no individual reading lights, there weren't enough lockers, the breakfast was only just passable and not good money value. It is ok if you just need a place to crash in Glasgow, but don't get the wrong idea of a 'hotel' from the quote on the site. I was seriously disappointed in this hostel, but at least the staff were helpful and nice.

It was a bit difficult to find the way from Buchanan Busstation where the airportbus drops you off to find the right bus to get near Park Terrace where the hostil is situated. We had to ask our way around te streets of Glasgow and many people didn`t know where and which bus would take us there. So at the end somebody suggested to take a taxi,as it was almost the same costs for two persons. He was right, it cost around 4pounds. So if you want to get there quickly :take a cab,if you want to see Glasgow and talk to friendly, helpfull Scottish people : walk !

The hostel is very clean and the rooms comfortable. The staff is friendl. Unfortunetly there rnds the good part. The Kitchen is small, inconvinient and lack tools to do propper cooking. Wi-fi is supposedly available is launge room but rarely works, and does not support mac and mobile devices, only windoes laptops. There are only two PCs that have a slow connection, making the internet expensive. The hostel location is not too far from attractions, but not too close either.

I really enjoyed this hostel. The staff was very nice and made my day after a long journey from Inverness and telling me that I could upgrade to a private room for a little extra money. My room had a large, clean bathroom and shower. And my room was on the 3rd floor facing south with a stunning view of Glasgow, especially at night. It took my breath away and made the 3 flights of stairs worth it.

The hostel is not as close to the City centre as SYHA may suggest, being a walk of over half an hour from the bus and train stations, even longer if the guest has lots of luggage. but the hostel is in the smartest part of Glasgow, overlooking Kelvin park, and well situated for the museum and the west end area of the City, and the staff are very helpful and considerate. The extra effort in reaching the hostel is well worth while, and Glasgow is a wonderful place, always worth a visit. I come here frequently.

We are a married couple and would have liked the option to stay in a couples room. The private option is a big jump in price. Co-ed dorms are great for budget conscious couples, very dissapointing that this isn't available. The female dom room did not have enough room for luggage, only 2 lockers and 6 beds! The common rooms were inviting and large, the kitchen was user friendly. A bottle of cooking oil for common use would improve the service. Breakfast was way too expensive for what was provided. Thinnest bread we've ever seen, very small croissant.

This is a hostel I enjoy staying at, particularly in winter when the hostel is usually quieter, and the hostel prices are lower. Currently SYHA is offering a promotion of a third night free. Combined with a hospitable and helpfull staff, a building of character and architectural interest, set close to Kelvin park in a quiet and smart part of the city, and kept clean and warm all day, this all makes for a short winter break at excelent value. I have been before, and intend to come again this winter while the promotion lasts.

Staying near the University in Glasgow was a great jumping off point from which to see the city. I particularly loved the location near the park as well, where I could go for a run in the morning and feel very safe doing so alone. This SYHA hostel was easy to find, the staff were friendly and helpful, especially in my jet-lagged state, and the downstairs cafe was convenient for a tired girl to get a meal before crashing into bed. As a conscientious traveler, I also commend this hostel on their impressive recycling program!

I stayed two weeks in this hostel in several different rooms - shared dorm rooms with up to 5 or 6 others. Rooms were always clean. If you are a light sleeper, you may wish to consider ear plugs. Some of the walls are thin. That said, I had a lovely stay - friendly staff, excellent kitchen accommodations, internet and wi-fi, and best of all, the location next to beautiful Kelvingrove Park.

My first YH visit in 2 decades and was very impressed with the building and the marvelous area it sits in - one bit of advice if you are biking - the roads in glasgow are one way so plan your approach unless you are strong in the ways of the force... the force for me was not strong and I had a frustrating twiddle around and added a mile or two extra to my ride as it got dark

This hostel has a wonderful location. It overlooks Kelvingrove Park; is a quick walk to the underground; and has easy access to the University. Excellent restaurants within just a few blocks. The street is quiet, so there won't be rowdy drunks outside keeping you awake. Our twin room was clean and functional.

The Glasgow hostel is an ideal choice for travellers on a budget. The facilities are very good, the building they are in splendid (the whole surrounding area is of architectural distinction, and will make you feel good to be in Glasgow). The location is quite central, but if you are on foot, it is a fair, but by no means excessive, walk into the city centre - Kelvingrove Museum, etc., on the other hand, is right nearby. I give it a thumbs up.

Had a twin room with a fabulous view, and a wonderful quirk - it felt like it leaned in one direction. Glasgow is a lovely city - particularly for an overnight trip or a long weekend. This hostel (a short bus ride or a longish walk from the city) is a lovely place to stay, particularly if you choose to walk through the park on your way to/from Sauciehall street. If you're taking the buses, make sure you know where the stops are, as Glasgow buses will only stop at designated stops, even if they drive past others to get there. Enjoy your trip!

Location in interesting Victorian neighborhood overlooking Kelvingrove Park & Glasgow. Hostel is in a band of rowhouses at top of steep hill above Park, about 7 minutes huff&puff walk up from Kelvinbridge Subway Station. In daytime, walk is very safe. Hostel cultivates very quiet atmosphere. There are a number of separate rooms: TV room with TV & some books, game room with pool table & jukebox, eat-in kitchen with gas stovetops, large refrigerators, some counter space & one microwave Kitchen is kept quite clean with adequate number of dishes, pans, etc. The staff is always on hand & are very pleasant &knowledgable. My son & I stayed at beginning & end of our Scotland trip, using separate-sex dorms and then getting private room for ourselves & much preferred ease and privacy of private room. Rooms are clean & very basic, one should not bring lot of luggage. We liked coffeeshop very much.

I was sorry that the Ullapool hostel was closed. I would love to have stayed there as well. Looking for a good cheap breakfast -- with fabulous coffee -- very near the Glasgow hostel? I recommend the Patio Cafe. Sorry I can't recall the address, but it's on one of the side streets just east of the hostel, as you walk toward downtown. Very friendly staff -- nice lively atmosphere. Have a scrambled eggs on a bun. They're great. Make use of your wallet. It's not good enough just to shove pound-notes into your jeans-pocket. Pockets can get turned inside-out, and notes can get lost. Money in a wallet is far less likely to get lost. I speak from painful experience.

For west highland way walkers who choose to start from Glasgow, this is the place.FANTASTIC HOUSE,and you are right on the doorstep of Killingrove park. If you are here for the weekend, try to get to the Uisge Beatha public house for the real scottish expirience and only 500mtrs from the hostel. All in all SYHA have a great place in Glasgow which i highly recommend.

You have to be fit to stay in this hostel! Lovely building but LOTS of stairs up to rooms - people really struggle with their luggage. No drinking water in the rooms and the self-catering kitchen is down in the basement so it can be a long way to go for a glass of water. However, it is a lovely and grand old building in a very nice part of Glasgow (at the top of a hill!), with a large park outside the front door.

Everything was really lovely! I especially loved the TV lounge and the convenient adjacent bathrooms. The only, tiny thing that would have been nice was if the bathroom had a door. I think I woke my dormates up in the morning with my shower; if there was a door to block some of the sound, it would have been perfect. Other than this though, I had an excellent stay in this beautiful hostel!

This is a fabulous hostel to stay in, which is within easy walking distance of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Tenement House, the pubs, tea shops and shopping on Sauciehall Street, and to public transportation. The hostel staff are also ready with their own helpful opinions of what's good (and what's not) to see for the time you are in Glasgow. If you have the time, grab a ticket on the "hop on, hop off" bus in Glasgow to get a really good idea of things to see and do.

The SYHA hostels are friendly and I have only received good experience from them. The staff is really friendly and willing to help you if you have any questions regarding the hostels or how to get directions in the city. Despite the fact that the beds are a little too hard for my liking, it is most definitely a great place to stay if you need a secure accomodation with a very friendly atmosphere. They have internet access which makes it easier for you to stay in touch, and you are very likely to make some good friends during your stay!

This hostel is in a fantastic position overlooking Kelvingrove Park and a pleasant walk from the city centre. If you're travelling with small children there is a lovely playpark in the park , next door to nice (although quite expensive) cafe. Trying to find the place by car was a bit of a nightmare so make sure you have a map as well as the directions in case, as we did, you go completely wrong.
