The hostel is well- served by pubs and eating venues for a small rural hostel. Only suggestion for caution is drying facility is very crude - don't expect too much of it overnight!

Expect a warm welcome at Kirk Yetholm Youth Hostel. It is an idea finish or start for the Pennine Way. Enjoy a half pint of Border Ales if you have just completed the walk in the Border Hotel - just around the across the village green from the hostel.

Thank you SYHA for this haven at the end of the Pennine Way and for our group of mountain biking tourers after a strenuous day cycling over the Border Ridge from the Coquet Vally. We had a warm welcome and excellent facilities.

Brilliant homely little hostel in a very peaceful part of the world. This is the third time we have used it as a stopover after walking with friends from Newcastle before travelling on to the North and West of Scotland. David and Janet Fellows

A reminder to those staying at the hostel whilst doing st cuthberts way. There is no breakfast served so whilst going through town yetholm it is worth visiting the shop there to get supplies for morning and lunch the following day, it will prevent a mile walk the next day just to get food.

Well we travelled around Scotland by 'motorbike before stumbling across this 'Gem. On this occasion the 'Hostel manager was a real font of knowledge with the surrounding area & aspired us to venture to a villages such as 'Ford & Ital which where absolutely stunning with lots to see. More importantly the 'pub up the road from the hostel with fantastic home foods to be enjoyed along with some good ale to wash it down with. Definitely worth a punt, in my opinion a good 5*

Don 't neglect Southern Scotland and Northern England. Not as well known as the Highlands but every bit as interesting. This hostel is a good base to explore the Borders and Northumberland.

A great hostel in a great location, capped by having 1 of the friendliest and most helpful wardens it has been my pleasure to meet. An absolute must for an overnight if you are doing as we were and walking the St Cuthberts Way.

Lovely little hostel and very pleasant and helpful temporary wardens. Separate rooms are on the first floor and the ladies loos and shower are on the ground floor, but no problem. We will be back.

No food provided at the hostel but there is a general stores selling lots of food in Town Yetholm plus 2 pubs to choose from - I preferred the one in Town Yetholm which was filled with locals; the one close by in Kirk Yetholm seems more touristy and Wainwrighty!

This is a hostel which offers much more than being a the starting/finishing point for a Pennine Way expedition. I used it as a base to cycle from and explore the Scottish Borders, and the roads nearby are scenic and reltively quiet. And if you drop your jar of pasta sauce on the kitchen floor, as I did, the meals in the Border Hotel, five minutes walk away, are first rate!

If you are walking the Pennine Way and expect reasonable facilities on your concluding night do not stop at this overcrowded hostel which lacks basic hygene facilities, security or comfort. It is a potential death trap with its overcrowded dormitories.

The sort of friendly little hostel that everybody raves over; so use it! Beautiful scenery and fantastic walks in every direction, including only seven miles along the top bit of the Pennine Way to the excellent new Mounthooley Hostel (YHA) in Northumberland. It's also on St Cuthbert's Way. A rural bus terminus only yards from the hostel will take you to Kelso, from where you can get to Berwick (East Coast Main Line), Jedburgh etc. by longer-distance buses.
