A wonderful Hostel, - please don't close it. Reminds me of English hostels a few years ago, when they still focused on walkers and cyclists.

Lovely hostel at an astonishing and beautiful location. We spent a wonderful night sitting by the fireplace having some tea and talking with John, our host. Car drivers: don't be afraid of the 1mile dirt track, it was an unforgettable experience! :)

Must have car to get to hostel or be fit enough to walk quite a distance to get to and from the hostel. It still worth it because of the great remote experience with lovely views and a very helpful hostel worker.

Traditional hostel in secluded countryside. One of SYHA's best kept secrets. Rarely many visitors, so spacious surroundings and comfort, with no queues for anything. Volunteer-run hostel with enthusiastic and attentive warden. Hard to find fault; facilities much better than expected.

An Excellent base for cycling and walking in the Borders region. The only downside is the long rough path up to the hostel. Warden was extremely helpful and friendly.

Take a stroll down to the river before dinner - look out for Dippers and Goosanders on the river, and Buzzards overhead.

Both the caretaker and his wife were excellent! It has all the necessary kitchen facilities to cook you breakfast. Toilets were clean except if they have full house it could be a problem as only one shower and one toilet for 10 gals to share. I would recommend this place to everyone! Enjoyed the place much. Clean and homely. Nice view from the hostel as well. Just that you will probably need a car to go there as there is hardly any public transport to the place

This hostel is clean, cute, and relaxing. The upgrades make this a more modern hostel and very comfortable to stay in. 16 of us rented the entire hostel and it was perfect for a group this size. The only downfall is that it is very isolated and we were thankful that we had a rental car to take us to it.

A lovely hostel with well-equipped kitchen, excellent shower and wood-burning stove. It would be an ideal stop on a cycling tour of southern Scotland. From the hostel door it's you walk straight into woodlands and within 20 min walking you're up amongst hills. A further 20 min walking brings you on top of the ridge to the majestic "Three Brethren".

A really friendly, comfortable hostel, ideal for walkers, mountain bikers or touring cyclists. The only down side is that its 1 mile from the road, up a gravel track, although this is worth it for the views and the serenity at the hostel.

I had my wet washing put on with their washing. Made my bunk bed up when I arrived and only one other there and we sat round the log fire chatting. Can thoroughly recommend this hostel

Don't be put off by the track, it's perfectly driveable if taken slowly! There is a hose pipe for washing your bike down after a hard day at Glentress too.

Experience nature from close by (roe passing by, birdsong, pheasants and rabbits galore). Much like camping, but less hassle and all amenities close at hand. Friendly atmosphere. Excellent kitchen facilities. Terrific scenery towards Melrose, interesting stately homes the Selkirk way.
