Glen Affric Youth Hostel is a unique and remote hostel in a wide river valley surrounded by high mountains. Situated 8 miles from the nearest road, our remote Eco-Hostel offers an unforgettable experience. A former stalking bothy on the Affric Estate, comfortably furnished with wood panelled walls and stoves in the common room and kitchen, it is a paradise for nature lovers, walkers and those seeking solitude. On the doorstep are 15 Munros and good tracks through the valleys for both walking and mountain biking. Glen Affric Youth Hostel is only accessible on foot or by mountain bike and the nearest roads are 3-4 hours walk away. The location is very special and it is the closest you will get to an Alpine Hut in Scotland. A great experience awaits those who are prepared to make the effort to visit.
Glen Affric Youth Hostel offers budget multi-share accommodation but also offers two private rooms. This Eco-Hostel has a wind turbine and solar panels which provide electricity and warm water, it is heated by wood and coal fires and is so remote it has no refuse collection service; therefore everything you carry in must be carried back out when you leave. The Youth Hostel has a well equipped kitchen and friendly welcoming staff. Guests must remember to bring their own food and drink supplies, also a 2 or 3 tog rating sleeping bag. Please note that there is no shop or mobile phone coverage at the hostel.
Please note that there are no signs to the youth hostel, so a good map, compass, torch and appropriate clothing are essential. Weather can change in an instant and streams can become difficult to cross after prolonged rain. Please be prepared and check weather forecasts.
