Howmore

The township of Howmore lies on the west coast of South Uist in an area widely covered with machair (shell sand) forming a rich soil for grass and colourful wild flowers in the summer season. There is also easy access to the long sandy beaches nearby. The hostel overlooks a ruined chapel and a burial ground of the Clan Ranald chiefs. A wonderful setting full of history. Operated by the Gatliff Trust. No advance booking, sheet sleeping bags required. Junior £5.50 / Senior £8.00

For practical reasons it is not possible to accommodate children under 5 years-of-age. Beds are usually available, but reservations cannot be made for the first night of a proposed stay. No special facilities are available. Camping £5.
