A four-day tour of the highlights of Scotland, taking in cities, mountains, lochs and glens, with an overnight stay in a genuine Highland Scottish castle. Monday Depart from Glasgow or Stirling, with connections from Edinburgh Travel to Oban on the scenic west coast of Scotland Optional activities: Go on a whale watching trip in one of the best coastal areas for wildlife watching, or visit the renowned Scottish Sealife Sanctuary 
Tuesday Travel to Glen Nevis, the base of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK Then on to Loch Ness, home of the mysterious monster and Britain’s deepest loch Optional activities: A visit to the Loch Ness Monster visitor centre, or to the famous Urquhart Castle on the shore of the Loch – one of Scotland’s oldest and best-loved castles The journey then follows a beautiful route through stunning scenery of Cannich and Beauly to Carbisdale Castle, once home to the King of Norway and now one of the most opulent youth hostels in the world Optional activities: An evening mountain bike tour or a guided walk in the grounds of the Castle, overlooking the Kyle of Sutherland 
Wednesday Head off to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands Optional activities: Enjoy the shopping delights of this beautiful small city, visit the museum and art gallery, or experience Culloden Moor – scene of the last major battle on British soil and one of the most iconic and emotive sites in Scotland. In the afternoon, travel to the Cairngorms National Park with its towering mountains and outstanding scenery. Optional activities: Kayak or windsurf on Loch Morlich, hand-feed the herd at the Reindeer Centre or take a trip on the funicular railway to the top of Cairngorm Mountain. In the evening, visit Aviemore at the heart of the National Park – a bustling town with dining and nightlife to suit everyone. Thursday On your last day, we stop off in the delightful town of Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire – rightly known as Big Tree Country. Optional activities: Walk or bus to Edradour Distillery, the smallest distillery in Scotland, learn from an expert guide how the national drink is made, and enjoy a wee dram at the end of the tour. Or visit the world famous salmon ladder leading to Loch Faskally. The tour ends at Stirling or Glasgow, with connections to Edinburgh. Dates The tour runs from Monday to Thursday on the following dates: Monday 7 July – Thursday 10 July Monday 14 July – Thursday 17 July Monday 21 July – Thursday 24 July Monday 8 September – Thursday 11 September Monday 15 September – Thursday 18 September Monday 22 September – Thursday 25 September Accommodation Your accommodation is in some of the finest youth hostels in Scotland, each with a different character but the same warm welcome. Accommodation is not included in the price of the tour, and should be paid for at the start of the tour - you should allow about £50 in total for your accommodation. Meals can be purchased at most of the hostels you visit, and each hostel also has a self-catering kitchen. Where dinner is not available, you will be able to visit the local town for a choice of dining options. Optional Activities The range of activities available may vary, and some activities may be subject to minimum numbers. Wherever possible we will offer a variety of different options at each location, to suit customers of different ages, interests and levels of fitness. The activities are organised through external companies, and costs are not included in the price of the tour. Departure Points The tour leaves Glasgow and Stirling Youth Hostels on Monday morning, and will pick up customers coming from Edinburgh Youth Hostel by train. At the end of the tour, customers will be returned to Glasgow or Stirling Youth Hostels, or to Stirling train station for return to Edinburgh. Any late cancellations or no-shows will not be eligible for a refund. SYHA reserves the right to cancel a tour if insufficient numbers are booked. If a tour is cancelled, customers will be notified by email or text message. Customers are requested to check with their departure youth hostel on the Sunday preceding that the tour is still running. SYHA reserves the right to alter the route and change accommodation venues if necessary. Minimum age is 12 years old. |
